Hmm maybe I'll just try and lift them by the face then. I did see that they looked much slimmer than the York dumbbells.

I had a single Hoffman 45 for a while.  Bought it mainly to try to lift the entire thing by the face. Never considered cutting it up as a blob because the width of the head (reaching across) was so much narrower than a York 45 blob.  Plus the sides are completely flat rather than curved/bowed. For what it's worth...I had bought a narrow 60 when I first start training blobs as a warmup weight for my York 80 and 85.  Felt incredibly easy in comparison - partly because it was lighter - but mainly because of the shape.  So I never felt the need to go lower to a Hoffman 45.

Fair point. I don't do a ton of double dumbbell lifts though which is why I thought I might make blobs as Ive never had any and York dumbbells/blobs seem to have dramatically increased in price.
