Tues 07-27-04

Todays workout sucked! I was trying to get a shot of me closing my elite and I wasnt even close. Missed on my #3 also. On a positive note, I did do several pulls with my Blobette (51.5lbs on the bath scale) and finally overhead pressed my 200lb sandbag. I had a buddy over so today ended up doing a bit of everything.

Grippers - Tx4, 1x2, HG300x1 (miss left), Elitex miss both, #3 miss both

Blobette DL - about 7 or 8 pulls (only hovered the left on the first few, missed on the rest).

Finished off with some sandbag lifts/carries, sledge work and a few 28lb shotput DL's.

The block weights are making my fingers really sore. I think this is affecting my gripper work. Who knows. I'm gonna really have to focus on the grippers now and cut back on the rest as I'm planning to get certified in Sept.

Monday 08-03-04

About 3am (I work graveyard), cant sleep and I cant wait anymore to workout. Will probably have one more workout until my cert attempt (got pushed forward). My right pinky knuckle is starting to get sore from the grippers, but oh well, have to get certified.

Grippers - Tx3, #1x2, #2x1, MM1x1x3 (right only), MM1x1 (left, braced w/right hand), ElitexMissed by 1/16" right, fail left. Took 30min break then did a few more closes w/the MM1, missed on my hard #3 and MM2.

Attempted to take video w/my small camera. I got some shots but the video is by no means MM quality, but it shows closes. I'll have to find out how to post (they are 40-60 megs tho, not sure if itll work?).

Friday 08-06-04

My last workout until my certification attempt.

Grippers - Tx4, 1x3, 2x1, MM1x1 (right only), BBExFail (1/16"), #3xFail (1/2")

The workout pretty much sucked! My right pinky knuckle is starting to get sore and I dont think I'm giving myself enough rest. The #3 I tried is my brand new one and my first real squeeze with it. Not sure if its "unseasoned" or just damn hard, but its harder than my BBE. Didnt want to leave without doing something good so I did some block weights

Blobette - 1xFail, 1xFail, 1x1 (right only)

Blob35 (toss hand to hand) - Toss back and forth, catching by the top. Sat on a bench to do this and was only able to catch with my right hand. Did it to failure on the right.

The blobette is packed full of shot, I think (hope) its in the 55lb range. I was happy to do one lift, but there was a bit of tilt in the start. The blob tossing is an absolute awesome hand exercise. My first time doing it. Congrats Sean D. and others who can do this w/40's!

Monday 08-16-04

Since the CoC cert is over and I was able to close it under the old rules, I'm going to lay off the grippers for a while - they are making my right pinky knuckle very sore. I'm basically going to do grip work two times a week for a while: Day1 - thickbar/pinching. Day2 - wrist work/bending. The days will vary depending on how I feel. Anyhow, my hands were still a bit sore from Saturday, but I couldnt wait any longer.

Knuckles forward AA rack pulls (#4pin/~17") - 120x3, 210x3, 300x1, 350x1, 370x3/4, 300x3

3" Crusher - 60x3, 100x1, 125xFail (got a sharp sting that shot up my right forearm on this attempt)

Clay's RT - 120x1, 145x1, 170x2 (right) 145x2 (left)

RT - 170x1, 205x1 (right), 170xFail left

Blob50 - clean&press x 1 (right), one pull left, 1x3 right, fail left

Blob35 - 15 pinch catches back and forth

Blob50 - +5lbs x 1/2pull (right), fail left

This was a lot of volume for me, prob too much, but it felt good. Big note to self is to be careful on the big diameter stuff when my hands are fatigued. The sharp pain wasn't a problem on the 2.5" and smaller.

My long term goal is to break the NW Rolling Thunder record set by Corey St. Clair at 251lbs. I'm a LONG way off that but I'm gonna keep plugging at it.

Great lifts! That record isn't so far off. All you have to do is lift 27lbs more and you'll have it. Is 27lbs a lot? :)

nicew liftin buddy. Cant wait to see it in person. Are you still going to do any bending along with the thick bar? Hopefully we can get another grip meet or atleast a rt contest going sometime soon.

What I've got planned now is one day of thickbar w/pinching now and then and one day of wrist curls and sledge levering. I'm sure I'll bend now and then just to remind myself how bad I am at it :blink I threw around the idea of doing something at Brent Mikesell's meet and I'm not sure it'll work too well. Apparently, most of the competitors are pretty focused on the powerlifting meet and really dont pay much attention to the RT contest. Tod and Julie are up for a grip contest, just as long as its done right with some rules and prizes and such.

Morgan-Hey on the olympic bar hammer curls did you just hold a regular bar in the crook of your thumb? Ive seen them done this way just never tried it. Thanks and be looking for the package!

The olympic bar I have is a Texas Power Bar. I grab the center knurling like you would a dumbell and start with the bar at the side. Its a very good exercise - its kind of a combination hammer curl/leverage exercise. You can offset your grip or make one end heavier or lighter for more of a leverage exercise. Usually I'll make the bar real heavy on my last set and just lever each end to the ground (bar held at the side). I'm going to start implementing a thickbar for this soon.

I've had the flu for the last three days and really felt like crap today - workout reflected it. Hands are toasted so I pretty much did a non focused, little bit of everything workout today. Gonna take 3 or 4 days off.

FB 2.5" Wrist Roller (1rep=1up ea way, ~3' roll) - 35x1, 70x1, 100x1 (really short strokes on the last set).

Just got the roller from John and was itching to try it - much nicer to roll than the IM roller. No knurling so its pretty slick, but you can unroll it without taking all the skin off your hand - add some chaulk if you want to make it real challenging. I was disappointed by not getting a no set with the #3 (its a new one, pretty hard), I really thought I could get it. I was happy to get the 295 though. I got a pr on the G-Rex too, so not too bad of a workout. I left out the card tearing as it seems to really flare up the elbows.
