Should I beat up my lower arms for a week?

I've been thinking of aggressively training my lower arms for the next week, then taking a week-and-a-half off.  The impetus for this  idea is that there is an amateur strongman contest in my state (Minnesota) on July 28.  I'm not competing, I'd be a spectator, but I'm going to bring some of my grippers to the event.  If I train an extended "shocker" routine for the next week, and then take time off, I expect to be very fresh at the strongman show.  It sure would be nice to close the Master for the first time in front of some witnesses.  I believe Wade Gillingham will be in attendance, although I don't know that I'll see him.

I assume people have done this sort of thing before.  What were your results?
