Sybersnott
Changed my grip routine again. This time.... it's back to severe negatives. They hurt like all ####, but the gains I get out of them are incredible. Especially mashing that CoC #3! Who else here benefits from the severe negatives? I work them on the SW and the Atlas two times a week.
Guest AghastGrip
I've never found that doing large amounts of negatives proved to be very beneficial in strength increases for me, but just detrimental to my progress. I have however found that throwing in the occasional few into my training for variety has seemed to produce results.
Guest Luke Reimer
Severe negatives twice a week? I envy you your recovery ability... I'd consider prioritizing negatives again, too, if I could recover that fast. The last period where I was trying big negatives I think it took me at least a week to recover, sometimes longer (mind you--that was awhile ago). One thing I have against severe negatives is that if they are really severe then I don't get to spend any time lingering in the closing range; the gripper bursts open several mm before I can even slow it down. I'm sure that I'll eventually try negatives again (but gentler ones to prolong overload in the closing range), but right now I'm trialing Wannagrips high frequency approach and liking it. Get this--Last week I went five days straight before performance started dropping, and that's doing at least six sets of intense singles or doubles a day. On the last day I had marginally less power and started reaching failure earlier after a few sets, but later on during armwrestling practice my fingers nevertheless felt more bulletproof than ever before. Anyway I would be interested in hearing more specifically what severe negatives have enabled you to do recently that you couldn't do before. Maybe this sort of thing is more suited to machine workouts? (I don't have any grip machines).
Bill Piche
Luke, sounds like you hit the point to rest a bit...you will have to experiment with it. In fact, with 48hrs rest you may find you go back a bit. Don't worry though. Your rest might need to be longer.
