"high Volume"

Jad, good point about the "reference gripper." A friend of mine who is a board member, but who will remain nameless, has a Jamar dyno and has set a base number that if he doesn't reach that number-he's done for the day. He considers it a tool to diagnose and hopefully prevent overtraining with. I think it will work quite well for him. He's an innovator and an already strong man. When I'm able to buy a dyno I'll be doing the same thing...and I think it would help most here in the long run.

The dyno sounds like a great idea. I would love to have one, it's just not on the budget right now, mabye for Christmas.

I guess that for me, a noob at grip, high volume is how far I can mentally/physically push myself in a week without sustaining injuries and keeping my tendonitis to a low. Like what was stated earlier, I can train atleast an extra day a week when I massage, wear gloves when I sleep, do active recovery, and soak my hands in ice water or salt water. Im not sure why, but salt water just feels awesome on the hands. When soaking in salt water, my hands come out feeling very tough.

Jedd, As far as your top volume theory, I think that I, being a trainee feel comfortable going 65-75% 4 days a week. Granted that I don't perform the same exercise 4 days in a week.

I think the term "high volume" like everything else is just relative. For me high volume is just more than i would do on a normal day.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just thought I'd resuscitate this post for an update. On 5-22-04 I did what I would consider a super high volume workout. It of course might be other people's normal volume. All were of course full open and close reps.

Filed BB Master-total reps=215-right hand

Filed BB Master-total reps=160-left hand

Trainer-total reps=300-right hand

Trainer-total reps=315-left hand

Good times and skin grating off everywhere. :rock
