Louis Uni, aka Apollon, died Oct 18, 1928, alone,

due to an untreated throat problem.

Anyone who has studied grip history cannot place

Apollon lower than top three in overall grip strength

versatility among his peers. I consider him supreme.

Willoughby says Apollon's peak period was 1889-1892,

Terry Todd extends that to 1897. He apparently continued performing until circa 1912.

His lack of a regular training schedule coupled with

his hesitation to extend himself to anything near his

limit, meant that most all examples we have of his

strength, though undeniably remarkable, were also

no doubt in the 80-90% range of his potential. He

casually defeated challengers, and only when angered

would he kick into high drive to show the upstarts

what true strength looked like.

If I were granted one interview with any of the former

strength athletes, he would be the man!
