Bill Piche
Bert, A 420 #4?! What is gonna happen when most of the COC's there (and possibly others) all close that #4!?
Guest StrongerthanArne
That is simple. You don't proceed with the certification process. If one does, everyone would know that one closed a #4 just because it was much easier to close than an average #4. Unfortunately, the whole point of becomming certified is being blurred. Certified to do what? To possibly close a gripper with a #3 stamped at the end of the handle provided it is not a tough #3.
Bill Piche
You have to remember, even the "lighter" 3's are pretty tough!
Bill Piche
I can just see the headline now: "Four Crush the IronMind #4 gripper!!"
Roark
Looking at the numbers from Wannagrips' post of August 28 about calibrations, the average, tested, #4 was about 558 lbs. Many of the #3s hovered around 420 give or take, so a #4 in the range of a number 3 is not only confusing but thwarts the whole purpose of labeling the grippers in the first place, as well as inappropriate credits being given. I called Miss Cleo and she said she foresees a day in which only PDA calibrated grippers will be mentioned on the grip board. If you don't believe me, call her now! Guest MikaelSiversson
I am still not able to close my #3 (usually about 3mm away, sometimes less), but since I don't know the I.P. this does not say that much. Therefore, I have ordered two SOS grippers, both of which will be seasoned. One will be around 350 IP (i.e.an easy #3) and the other around 450 IP (i.e. a tough #3). Hopefully, I will be able to close the 350 IP to start with. We should be grateful that the PDA (and most of us seem to be) is providing us with this service so that we don't have to continue to walk in the darkness. 3Crusher
Bert-How old is the 420 #4? Steve
1stCoC
That post by Bert about the 420 number 4 I think was a typo error. There was one #4 Circa 94 to 95 that was measured around 480 something that I think he was refering to. RS
RiotGrip
Regardless of the typo, 487 in-lbs is still not the most formidable 4, I believe that DA CRUSH MONSTER, Mr. Sorin, and perhaps a few others in the grip world could mash that thing. I'm looking forward to hearing how this turns out.
Capt4Score
Sorry fellas, Did not mean to get everyone's feathers ruffed up. It measured 487lb. I got it mixed up with another gripper. We also have a Elite #4 which tested at 405lb. I will not be able to make the dinner, I have plans already, but dad will be there, with all of the fun toys! Have a great time!
