MilGrip
What is considerd a complete leverage? Once the sledge is brought down to the nose under full control, I then raise it back up perpendicular to the floor. Is this recommended? It certainly is tough on the wrist. A little clarification would be appreciated. ...if you're gonna do it, over do it...
Tom Black
Leverage lifting a sledge is not commonly contested in competition, so whatever is effective to gain strength is what matters. I do both "holds" and "reps" on my leverage lifts. On really heavy leverages I just bring the hammer down to wherever I can effectively hold it for time, not necessarily to my nose, and I don't leverage it back up. I usually specify the angle in my training log so I don't fool myself into thinking that I was stronger than I really am! On mid-heavy lifts I bring them to parallel and hold them. If I can hold a hammer for around 8 seconds, I can probably lever it back up after 5 seconds. On the light hammers I usually do 1 rep, down and up. On really light hammers (6-pounds) I'll do multiple reps. I think that heavy holds build strength for mid-heavy full reps. I think the reps build flexibility in the wrist, so I recommend doing both.
