Jared P
Wednesday - 7/13/22 104 IronMind CoC No. 2 - Closed easily this week, and held shut for 5+ seconds! Feels good to be making such consistent progress. I've noticed a strength increase as I've started training with less volume overall, training only 1 day per week, and more standard progressive overload sets and reps, like I would with any other form of strength training - such as barbell squats, bench press, or bicep curls. Example: After warm up reps ascending and max attempts I did, 76 IronMind CoC No. 1 - 2 sets of 5-6 CCS reps each hand, hold for 10 seconds on last rep 66 IronMind CoC No. 0.5 - 2 sets of 8-12 (or highest until failure) CCS reps each hand, hold for 10 seconds on last rep

Jared P
Update: 108 IronMind CoC No. 2 (Filed) - closed, 1/18/23 112 Heavy Grips 250 - closed, 1/18/23 116 Grip Genie Level 4 - 1/4 inch away Finally able to move up the ladder again after stalling out at my 104 No. 2 for 6 months or so. In a bodybuilding-centric bulk since August, and up to 199.0 lbs as of this morning (up 18 lbs), so the strength gains are starting to come in spades. Should be able to get the 116 Grip Genie 4 closed within a month maximum. Hopefully my 122 IronMind CoC No. 2.5 falls by the end of summer. Ambitious goal of sitting around 125-135 RGC by the end of this year, and aiming for the No. 3 by the end of 2024.

Jared P
116 Grip Genie Level 4 - closed Making significant progress weekly now, probably due to strength gains from bulking. I'm at that point in the bulk (7 months in) where I'm hitting new PRs weekly at the gym. Kind of that perfect place to be for strength. My Wednesday (1 day per week) regimen for grippers now looks like this: - Warm up with ultra-light grippers 20-30 reps - 2-3 minute rest - Ascending single rep "warmups" from my 26 CoC Guide all the way up to 100 CoC No .2 - 2-3 minute rest - Max one-rep attempts at goal gripper, usually 2-3 times - in this case, this will now be my 122 CoC No. 2.5 - 2-3 minute rest - One-rep attempts at the next heaviest grippers descending (for instance, a few attempts each hand of my 116 Grip Genie Level 4, 112 Heavy Grips 250, 108 CoC No. 2) - 2-3 minute rest - Working heavy rep sets. 5-8 reps of my 100 CoC No. 2, then dropping down to my 91 Grip Genie Level 3, until failure. - Cool down with ultra-light grippers 10-20 reps. Lightest gripper tool (5-10 lbs rgc) 50-100 reps cool down. Finger extensor bands as final cool down 10-20 reps each hand. Been working great.
Jared P
Update: 122 CoC 2.5 - Still about 1/4 inch away from this one, but inching closer weekly. I may be able to get this one in the next 1-2 weeks, I'm hoping. I rested my standard forearm training this week, and went a little lighter on biceps even, in order to get some extra recovery in for next week's gripper attempts. Going to also focus on getting better sleep the night before. These factors together may be enough to get the thing closed this coming Wednesday. We'll see. I started my cut this week, so I'm in a marginal caloric deficit. But I didn't feel any weaker in last year's cut until the final month, so I should still be making consistent strength progress throughout the next 3-4 months.

Jared P
Put some hose clamp chokers on my 146 Heavy Grips 300 (set to 11.4mm) and 179 Heavy Grips 350 (set to 9mm). A 4” vice makes easy work of it. Takes 5 minutes, or less, to do this. Applied 6” strips of medical adhesive tape per handle, a strip of waterproof tape on top, then the hose clamps. Would probably add more padding if I was trying to protect the knurling on a more cherished gripper such as any of my other brands, but not as concerned with the cheaper Heavy Grips or Grip Genie grippers.

Nice! I recommend taping the choker to the tape below it. This will prevent it from slipping down and pinching your skin. Btw based on your progress, I think you might be able to do the 146 one from 15-20mm.

I just bought it used in the past two weeks. I believe the gripper is around 10 years old or more, so it may have already been used extensively and the rating lessened further over time. Jared P
Wednesday - April 5, 2023 update: Still haven't gotten the 122 CoC 2.5 closed yet, despite being within 3-5 mm the previous week. This 2.5 has been a real bugger. Would be pretty shocked if it didn't fall this month though. Reps on lesser grippers have continued improving. Strength still moving upward.

Jared P
Saturday - April 8, 2023 Put chokers on my 127 CoC 2.5 and 132 Standard Iron grippers. I need that closing strength. Taking some training cues from @dubyagrip. The time for games are over. I'm going to get my 122 CoC 2.5 closed this month, at all costs. Sitting about 3-5mm away still. On a side note, I always test out my heavier grippers just to see what kind of progress is being made overall. My 175 CoC 3.5 felt noticeably more springy today than ever before. That thing felt like a total brick a year ago, and I couldn't budge it at all. Now I can get the initial sweep closed to about 45mm wide. And I can get my 152 CoC 3 closed to about 35mm. Small wins compounding over time. Keep moving forward.

Jared P
Saturday - 4/15/23 122 CoC 2.5 Blurry screenshots from a chaotic video, wherein I gave 110% effort on my attempt. Almost blacked out. Looks very close, but hard to definitively say whether the handles touched or not. I’m leaning towards no. I had my eyes closed for most of the attempt, due to giving maximum possible effort. This gripper has been the toughest challenge of my entire grip journey so far; it’s basically a sworn enemy to me at this point. A formidable opponent. I cannot wait to smash and grind these handles together on a regular basis.

Jared P
Saturday - 4/22/23 Best gripper session of my life. Finally busted through the stagnation, and hit a bunch of new PRs. Felt extremely strong, and like anything was possible. 122 CoC 2.5 - First ever close! And I not only closed it once, but twice - and held it closed for 2+ seconds. Definitive, brutal crush. Gripper conquered. 127 CoC 2.5 (choked to 10mm) - Not only closed this choked from 10mm for the first time, but did multiple sets of 5-10 reps each! Just as recently as Wednesday of this week, and I still hadn't even closed it once yet! I felt like I could keep doing reps with it all day long. Absolutely bewildering considering it was my first time even being able to close it. Adjusted the choker to 20mm now for the next training sessions. Then to 38mm. Then to 54mm (ccs). Then remove the choker. Jaland Worley style. Several other PRs with lower grips and set/reps. Massive surge of strength today. The training is working. Also on a side note, I filed my 50 rgc Heavy Grips 100 by hand today. Not as clean or quick as a CPW filing job, but it suffices. Took about 30 minutes by hand. Fun to have a warmup gripper now for BTR training.

matek
Great close, big milestone!! 2 hours ago, Jared P said: Adjusted the choker to 20mm now for the next training sessions. Then to 38mm. Then to 54mm (ccs). Going wider incrementally is a good idea, but I advise doing it with the Aaron Corcorran/CPW style choker system. Be careful with the hose clamp. 30mm is still totally fine, 38mm might be but not sure. But I would be surprised if the clamp doesn't slip off at 54mm. Even if it can hold it somehow, eventually it will pop off violently - opening your hand unexpectedly (+ you don't want a clamp projectile to your face ). 20mm-30mm is a great range to train the final crush, but for anything wider, I would wait for Cannon's choker conversion service. Alternatively, convert it on your own. Have a small company drill ~25-30mm deep M6 (6mm) threaded holes into the handles. Or do it on your own with a vice, but it's hard to drill a straight hole in a cylinder without a drill press. Then this is what you need from a hardware store (although Amazon will be easier): 3x M6 stainless nuts, 2x M6 stainless male rod end bearings (heim joint), 1x M6x120mm full threaded stainless bolt, 1x M6 stainless knurled nut. After I typed this, I remembered you're in the US. So for imperial units, just replace M6 (6mm) with 1/4" (6.35mm), and 120mm with 5" (127mm). 1
