Jared P
Training session today, 4/13/22. Got to play with my new grippers. Don't have my CoC No. 2 back yet to attempt a first close, but made some attempts on my 112 HG250 and my 122 CoC No 2.5. Guessing my CoC No. 2 is in the 102-106 range, but not sure. Should be able to close that thing fairly easily within the coming weeks. Stayed mostly in the 50-85 RGC range today, doing combinations of CCS and NS reps, overcrushes, and long holds. Still making consistent progress every week, even if slow and small. It's a marathon, not a sprint. I really only started training consistently in December. So I'll take the 4 months progress of Trainer to CoC No. 2 with gratitude. Edited April 13, 2022 by Jared P
mcalpine1986
Great to see you logging progress. Keep at it, gripper progression takes time and lots of consistency. You will get the 2 soon no doubt. Every gripper milestone you hit is such a great feeling. Do you do normal training as well or just grippers?

Jared P
Thanks all! Decided to attempt some PR closes today after my back, biceps, and forearms workout at the gym, so my forearms were already fatigued. New PR close (primary hand): 91 Grip Genie Level 3 - NS close Couldn't quite get my 96 CPW Standard (Au) Gold yet, but hopefully that comes soon. Training is a roller coaster ride of strong and weak weeks (no pun intended). It's not the 160s RGC that most people here are at, but I'm making steady progress. New PRs always feel amazing. I also don't use chalk yet (I'm a purist by nature - I don't ever take any supplements, not even whey protein, or medications of any kind - natural food and drinks only), but chalk will probably be necessary in the future for heavy closes.
Jared P
4/27/22 New PR Left hand: 96 CPW Standard (Au) Gold - but for some strange reason, I couldn't get it with my right hand - my dominant hand - today. Which makes zero sense. Gripper training is weird. Everything's happening slow, but steady. My lower RGC (such as 70-90 rgc range) rep capabilities have increased, despite not much growth the past month in my max attempts. But I can now do 5-6 NS reps with each hand on my 76 CoC 1, and I only closed it for the first time in January. These lower rgc reps continually get better and better. Did Pony Pinch for the first time, no rubber bands added. Nice pump in the thumb pad. Edited April 30, 2022 by Jared P
Jared P
Saturday - 4/30/22 91 Grip Genie Level 3 - Closed with both hands fairly easily. 96 CPW Standard (Au) Gold - Right hand: 1/4 inch from close - Left hand: 1 inch from close - This gripper is somehow tougher for me than my 104 CoC 2; probably the width. 104 CoC No. 2 - Right hand: 0.5mm or less from close. Debatable that I actually closed it, but believe I missed it by mere fractions of a millimeter. The first ever close will come very soon, no doubt. - Left hand: 5/8 inch from close Finished as I always do, climbing back down the RGC ladder with reps and holds, all the way down to my 26 CoC Guide. Reps and holds continue to get stronger.
Jared P
Had to take a few weeks off gripper training as both of my palms developed large blisters from my new (heavy labor) job. Might be able to jump back into grippers tomorrow if I'm careful with my palms. Haven't used grippers in 2.5 weeks, so I'm interested to see if I've lost or gained strength. 1
Jared P
Saturday - 5/21/22 91 Grip Genie Level 3 - Closed easily with both hands (no set) 96 CPW Standard (Au) Gold - Right hand: First right handed close, closed easily (wide set) - Left hand: Missed (wide set) 100 IronMind CoC No. 2 - Right hand: Missed by fractions of a millimeter (arguably touched) - Left hand: Missed by 3/4 of an inch Same warm up, max attempts, descending RGC reps, and cool down routine as normal.

Gripper training can feel stagnant at times, when you find yourself on the same goal gripper for weeks or months, or even find yourself weaker than previous attempts. But with patience and consistency and a healthy training plan, the PRs and strength gains eventually happen. It's fun to look back and realize the grippers that you once couldn't even get closed a few months ago are now ridiculously easy to close for reps.

Jared P
Saturday - 5/28/22 91 Grip Genie Level 3 - Easy 96 CPW Standard (Au) Gold - Right hand: getting easy - Left hand: closed 100 IronMind CoC No. 2 - Right hand: Closed for second session in a row. Fairly solid for a new level. - Left hand: Almost 104 IronMind CoC No. 2 - Right hand: Still can't get this one. 1/4-1/8 inch away. This gripper has a very wide set, and feels nearly as hard as my 112 HG 250. Considerably harder than my 100 CoC No. 2. - Left hand: 1 inch away

Jared P
Wednesday - 6/8/22 91 Grip Genie Level 3 - Easy peasy. 96 CPW Standard (Au) Gold - Right hand: Easy - Left hand: Sometimes can close, sometimes can't. 100 IronMind CoC No. 2 - Right hand: Closed solidly - Left hand: Getting very close 104 IronMind CoC No. 2 - Right hand: So close! The tiniest gap. June should be the month for this one. - Left hand: 1/2 inch I test these ones out each week as well, as closing a No. 2.5 (122 or 127) is my goal by the end of 2022: 108 IronMind CoC No. 2 (Filed) 112 Heavy Grips 250 116 Grip Genie Level 4 122 IronMind CoC No. 2.5 127 IronMind CoC No. 2.5 I get noticeably better on each of these every week. Thinking the 116 Grip Genie Level 4 could fall by September. The narrow spread makes it feel easier than the others. As usual, regular warm up/cool down, reps, etc with my other lower RGC grippers.

True, but the smooth knurling makes it harder. Compare it with your Standard, huge difference. Great workout btw!
Jermiah Merciconah
In certain circumstances smooth knurling can make a gripper feel 20 RGC harder, Especially if you're using wider sets
Jared P
I probably have an unusual gripper technique. I don't use any chalk, just my hands. And I likely don't set it perfectly (to my detriment), but I basically just grab and rip. Because of how used to slippage I am due to not using chalk, I actually like smooth knurling, weirdly. My Standard feels absolutely harder to close than any of my other grippers, and my Grip Genies and Heavy Grips feel the easiest.

Jared P
Wednesday - 7/6/22 NEW PR 104 IronMind CoC No. 2 - Closed! Barely. Metal touched for a split second, which counts as a close. Excited to be able to close this one regularly in the future, as it's been the most challenging gripper for me to date. Tough sweep and wide spread. Still aiming for the goal of closing my 122 CoC No. 2.5 by the end of the year. A tough challenge, but I'm aiming high. And hoping the CoC No. 3 falls by the end of 2023.
