Today's session:

Grippers

Ivanko Super Gripper:

Warming up:

(1,3)-(1,5)-(1,7)-(1,8)-(1,9)-(1,10)

1 Overcrush:

(6,12) 138 RGC

I got it but I noticed that it is impossible for all the parts of the Ivanko to touch so chasing this overcrush thing is a waste of time and is only going to make me weaker in the long run.

(10,12) 180 RGC:

2 singles

I grabbed my 300 LB unrated gripper because I wanted to see how far I could close it while already being fatigued.

2 attempts:

I got extremely close on both I am definitely getting stronger.

Recovery:

100 LB gripper:

3x failure

Extensor "bucket":

3x failure

Lucky you are. That #3 might be 152 RGC +. Do you have an opportunity to measure the gripper?

No I don't.

It will probably be pretty damn expensive to get it rated and it isn't really worth the money in my opinion.

That's a wide gripper there! Worthy of your oversized hands!

The only one I have and closed is 77.5mm, pretty average spread.

Haha thanks man!

Good to know that 77.5 is average that means that my 77mm spread 3.5 isn't narrow either.

I thought it was after seeing my no.3 haha.

Just to be clear, pretty average spread among my other grippers. GHP is known to be slightly wider than CoC on average, but my #7 is about the same as my CoC #3. It can be that your 77mm CoC is on the wider side.

That would be even better I really like challenges.

I am super happy that I can get certified without ever having to learn how to set.

I never expected the Ivanko to have this much carry over to no sets.

This also explains why my no sets are stronger than my credit card sets.

Once I go narrower than no sets the carry over disappears completely.

Today's session:

Grippers

Ivanko Super Gripper:

Warming up:

(1,3)-(1,5)-(1,7)-(1,8)-(1,9)-(1,10)

Coc no.3:

I started with the no.3 because I wanted to see if I could actually close it.

3 attempts

These were super close I think I am about a deep set away from closing it.

Coc no 3.5

1 attempt

I wanted to see how far I could close it while already fatigued.

I managed to move it pretty damn far.

Recovery:

100 LB Gripper:

3x failure

Extensor "bucket":

3x failure

Hmm I wonder what would happen if you would train choked grippers, but in the same disadvantageous position you are in the end of a no set close.

Same here.

What I noticed is that it looks like people close the last few mm with their palm that's where I fall short because I am used to only moving the fingers.

I could be wrong though but that's what it looks like.

You mean flexing the palm muscles to "push" the handle towards the fingers? I think if the gripper is placed in a mechanically advantageous position, this will happen automatically without focusing on it. Handle placement is everything.. when doing CCS, most people rather sacrifice their pinky (it's not really on the handle at the start) than handle position.

Yeah that's what I mean.

It looks like people are actively pushing with their palm at the very end like the last few mm's of the range of motion.

Maybe I should start paying attention to it actively flexing my thumbpad might give me more strength.

I didn't know it was that important thanks for letting me know.

I just place the handle there where it feels the most comfortable lol.

😅 The problem with that is you might end up with basically a finger curl, and it will be super difficult to close the handles completely (not just the strength aspect).

I still think you would gain a lot by learning how to do narrower sets (even if there is some setback at the beginning). But of course, we should do what we enjoy.

That could explain me having difficulties finishing off the last few mm's haha.

I also think it would be beneficial but I don't think it is possible anymore I can't even set my 150 LB unrated gripper but I can close a 3.5 3/4 of the way LOL.

Thanks man I appreciate it!

Closing a no.4 without a set would be insane but I do believe I have it in me.

I know you do.. You've got the determination, drive and big hands..

Those are the three most important requirements......

I absolutely love grippers and when I love doing something I give it my all.

My hand size is kind of a necessity due to my inability to set grippers.

If I didn't have the hand size I have now potiental certification wouldn't have been possible.
