Scale Crushing

Recommended Posts

I just found an old scale in our garage.  It is one of those dial scales.  I tried giving it a squeeze pinch grip style, and then crushing style.  It occured to me that not only could I measure my strength better from this, but I could probably build it!  If I use this as a part of my training, I will basically be able to microload my improvements.  Since I will see the numbers, I should be able to always improve at least a little bit, since a lot of it is mental.  Seeing the numbers gives great motivation.

Here are the numbers I got:

Thumbless Crushing Grip: 155

Pinch Grip: 135

These numbers are probably accurate to within a few pounds.  Please share your results with the board everyone.

Go for it,

Michael Falkov

I hope that was with two hands?  I put two hands on and accomplished (thumbless) 190lbs.  Pinch grip with one hand was 80 lbs.

QG, I presume your talking about bathroom scales,

if so on a good day i've squeezed 20-stone both hands

it usually is between 19-20 however i feel. One hand

i got about 9stone with but it's usually after 2 hand

squeezes. Not really good numbers but i don't train

my crushing grip.

I've tried two different scales.  I got over 200lbs with both hands with the scale at my friends house and I can get about 180-185 at the one at my house.  My scale is thicker so the range makes it harder.  Scale crushing is cool.

I woke up this morning with my hands feeling sore.  They've never been sore before, only very tired.  I was doing a lot of scale crushing last night, really going all out.  Pinch and crushing.  I was actually shocked to see how much I got on pinch grip.

Claemore70: Yes, of course I do it 2 handed.  I'm not THAT strong! :)

woody36: I don't quite understand the conversion of stones to pounds or kilograms.  Could you explain, or point me to a place where I can find out?  Where do they use "stones" as a measure of weight? England only?

Russell:  Thats pretty good.  How thick are the scales?  What did you get on pinch grip?

My scale is about 2" thick.

Keep 'em comin',

Thanks for the explaination woody.  So that would mean you got 280 lbs.  That is really good.  How are you doing the the #3?  What did you get pinch grip style?

I'm curious to see some more results from everyone, I'm sure we all are.

QG,

     I don't think i could do that well on grippers i don't

own one,i started squeezing bathroom scales after i

read an article that said Bruce White did them.

There not something i do on a regular basis because

of severe pain after i bend and also i'm one of the few

people on the board that doesn't care if he closes a 3.

But as a training aid i think the scales are excellent and unusual,

get some small boards and you can build resistance

by adding thickness to the back of the scale.I don't

know if i explained that correctly.

Yup, you explained it well.  Its true, the #3 doesn;t really matter, its just a way to measure strength.  It would also let me see a comparison between scale numbers and grippers.

Also, who is Bruce White?  And what do you bean by severe pain after you bend?

QG,

Bruce White is a grip specialist,in the article it shows

him pinch gripping 115lbs and 60lbs thumb/index

finger only. He's squeezed 308 on bathroom scales

at a bodyweight of 148lbs and he's number eleven

on David Hornes all time best list.Which means he

may chip in and give us more info about the man him-

self.

I do a touch of steelbending, and an old injury keeps

flaring up.

Good luck
