camz
And finally a list I compield for the benders in Europe, as the list from Jedd or the BB list is pretty much useless, as you can't get most of the shoes over here: Horseshoe Progression Shortlist (edited by C.-A. Mertz) Following shoes make a good progression chart from absolute beginners to elite level horseshoe benders. I tried to keep it simple. All listed shoes are front shoes and except the DFs unclipped. All listed shoes from the same model have the same dimensions through the sizes! That means that the biggest size is easiest to bend, smallest size hardest (physics!) and therefore give a good progression: every size smaller is “a little bit” harder than the one before! Feel free to bridge your gaps with shoes from the BIG list or try to bend whatever seems cool to you... Some general aspects first: → Front shoes are smoother/easier to bend than hind shoes. → From the same model in the same size the unclipped shoes are easiest to bend, the toeclipped ones need a little bit more control and the sideclipped version is a good bit harder, especially in the crush down. So they make a good addition! (From the SX7 and DF there are sideclipped versions too!) → There are thinner (=easier) shoes available, but I would not recommend to bend them, as they can and will snap! → Bend steel on your own risk and use common sense! Note: This gap looks huge, but the main issue is the difference in size! If you have worked your way down through the smaller sizes (#00, #000, #0000), it could be hard to find the "sweet spots" for the bigger sizes (#3...#5), so they can feel harder, just because you are not used to it...) pawel r
exercise for shoe bending: 1). isometric in 3 position : start position, 90° and 180° 2). One of the things I've been doing to help me progress in twisting a horseshoe is to take shoes I am already good at bending and making them more difficult by cutting them shorter (for example cut 1/2" off each side). The decrease in length and leverage makes the shoes harder to bend and builds more strength in hands Edited April 2, 2021 by pawel r
