Mike saying he is average:  then yes, average guy can close a 3.  But guys, we see the best grip guys on here.  They close 3.5, occasionally 4.  So it makes us say average guy can close 3.  Not necessarily so.  It is a reasonable goal for many though.  Not world class, but I am just not sure it can be demoted to average lol.

Could we also argue that there is a difference between World class in elite?

You will be my vitnesses. I admit I am an average man in almost all lifting disciplines because I tried all. If I got to no. #2.5 in 8 months I suppose I can do more. In lifting it is usual to hit genetic max after about 5 years of optimal trainning. So I am far from there.
If I will close #3 you will know average ability for sure. I am sorry to say so because it may hurt. If I say I am below average it may hurt even more. :) Let it be in mind that I couldn't get #1 first try and now as hipotethically below average I can get #2.5 and have video on this board to prove.

You shouldn’t feel bad about not closing a #1 first time.... this is the case for many men I have seen just by bringing one out in public . Just look at what iron minds package says ... the #1 will stop most trained men the first time, and if you can close the #2... you will have “rescue 911” style strength.  We all know that the packaging never lies......🤷‍♂️

You may not be giving yourself enough credit.  But this is not going to be a fruitful "debate," since there is no way to prove our hypotheses.

I wouldn't know. :) But I am certainly not above average even in my own experience with other men. But they all may be weakling as was nicely stated here and I am very interested how far will I push this as weekling. I hope as far as I can. 😈

Well, from my observations in life, most men I’ve come in contact these days are very weak. In physical strength as well as character. Is it because of our recent cultural shift and devices we have been left to? I would say yes.

I agree. But it has to be in mind also that I was doing "hard" work for years. It wasn't out of the space hard but I had to move heavy stuff around occasionally. But I didn't end up Hulk mode. I am just not gifted. Average at most.

Well, most of the kind of strength you are speaking of comes from specificity of training. You said you were a garbage man? I guarantee you would throw more garbage cans in to the truck in a faster time and with more accuracy than most untrained sanitation specialists who are lifters of the barbells , just like the trained lifter of the barbell would outdo the untrained sanitary specialist in his game.

Sorry, I’m lounging by the pool in February and enjoying a little grip board shenanigans...

That's great progress.

Yes. That's right. But there are men who close even #3 without specifical trainning and men who bench 315 without ever touching barbell. Certaintly not me.

But can they compete at an elite level... (I know we throw that term around loosely in these parts) in the waste management Olympics? I highly doubt it!!

I am just trying to get perspective. These debates aren't easy and most rather don't do it. But in subconscious mind there is a need at least in me to properly rang myself in abilities comparing to other men. To be real. Wast majority of men will never know what is even possible and what other men do let alone to rang themself properly on their genetic limits and not thik they are all supermen just not developed enough. :) Because being real can set me free.

Do you mean “rank” yourself? Ok, I understand. Sure, we all want to know where we relatively stand amongst healthy males. I totally get it.

And you smashed mm0? There must be something wrong. I think you belong among most healthy males.

If you ask me it is like that. Geneticaly most untalented can't get past coc #2, average can go to #3, all above is above average and elite.

I don't think there's any healthy male that can't get to a 2.5 and at least close to a 3. Getting up to 3.5 and 4 seems like something that not just anybody can approach. With proper training of course, I don't mean first attempts. Just like I think any male can get to a 3 plate bench.

Something like that in perfect trainning conditions.

I definitely think an average guy can get to an average 3 with a deep/mms set  with training. 0-5 years or something. Beyond that I think you need the genetics.

I agree with this

Yes they are for regular trainning. But average men start here. It would be stupid to stay on this level.

Yes. And No.  I use a Trainer every workout. In an interview, I believe either Dave Morton or Heath Sexton said the Trainer is by far their most-used gripper, critical to warming up and active recovery.

I have found from running CPW grip booths that pretty much any average healthy guy can close a #1 once you show them how to hold the gripper. If they don't close it, it is almost always because they did not listen and their form is super bad.

315

LOL!

OK, I assumed that I was AT LEAST average for a man.  Maybe not far above, as I'm not big or athletic, but in my life I have met enough guys to know I am not a weakling at least relative to the guys I have met.  But there is NO WAY I could EVER bench 315 free weights with ANY amount of work, or anywhere near it.  I have never even managed to get 200 up in free weights, although close enough that I admit I could go over that if I worked at it, and 250 is about my limit on a machine.  But 315 is way beyond my body's ability.  I would much sooner agree that closing a 3 is average!

I think a lot of you guys are used to hanging around strong folk, gym rats, people who are selected from an above-average group, and then you feel average when you really are not.

Anyway, if I am a weakling, I am a weakling, oh well.  But I must be around a lot of weaklings all the time then.
