SW Region comp 2020 heads up

Recommended Posts

I am a bit late starting planning for this but better late than never. Comp will be in April. Most likely April 18th, 2020 though I need to firm this up with my better half. Venue is available for that date though. I am also starting to try and narrow down events for the contest and would love comments on this.

Events considering:

Grippers 20mm block set or gripper like device I am working on that would take setting out of the equation.

2x5 Saxon bar for pinch. CTS bars Or Euro (Probably Saxon bar though)

Thick bar events being considered ( one of these )

 - Axle DL

 - FBBC 2 1/4" Crusher ( a new tool )

 - Plate loadable Inch to platform like last year

Willing to consider other options as well as long as the event is relatively safe and newby friendly (not too technical)

Should be interesting. We'll be competing with my 2x5 Saxon and the Axle that day too for the Canadian Nationals.

Aaron, what airport is most convenient to get to you?

Most convenient is Tucson International Airport (TUS). Flying into Phoenix is another option if you don't mind a 1.5 - 2hr drive down to Tucson.

Phoenix is a nice drive. I wouldn't mind doing that again.

Thoughts on events:

Grippers or gripper thing - either is fine by me.

Pinch:  I'd prefer the CTS, but Euro is good too.

Thickbar: Any option but the 2 1/4" only because I don't have a 2 1/4" 😉

I have been battle testing the one you sent me for testing every week for the last few weeks and am loving it. Both the size and the spin with the bushings. Big poundage drop for me from 2"  but not as bad as 2.5" drop.

Still think that loadable inch is the finest adjustable Dumbbell in the world

Oh, ok that's good.  I thought they had been released and I missed the boat. 😉

That "setless" gripper sounds great!

And that Saxon bar from last year was awesome with the weights it allowed!

Ok, got final approval for the date 4/18 from the wife and gym venue. So we are all set for the date.

I'm figuring out my schedule with my son and my budget, but should know pretty soon -- is it safe to book flight and hotel for that date?  If I don't have my son and the flights are reasonable, I'd love to attend one of your comps.

Should be safe to book at this point barring anything major and unforeseen coming up on my end the date is solid

Just for clarification, is the contest headed towards:

1.) CSS brand gripper gadget

2.) Loadable Inch DB

3.) Saxon bar

Just looking to finalize my training plan for the next 3+ months. 😉

Yes, that is the plan unless the CTS gripper like device idea does not pan out. In that case we would use grippers with standard 20mm block set.

Late to chime in on this but I plan to be there. Very curious about the potential for this 2.25" FBBC crusher. I really enjoyed the 2" event from 2 years ago.
