So this powerlifter Jamal Browner just hit a 1015lb. sumo deadlift with straps but couldn't crack more than 821lb. in the recent Boss of Bosses meet last weekend.  I think he was pulling with a hook grip a la Woolam and Belkin.  If this guy could get his grip up to par he'd be the strongest sumo deadlifter in the world.

Wow that is a HUGE discrepancy between straps and no straps. Almost 200 pounds??? How is that possible to have that big of a grip discrepancy without  straps as compared to straps!? I am dumbfounded right now.  Call me ignorant as I have never used a strap in my life for anything so maybe I’m clueless, but this seems huge.

Yeah, that seems pretty ridiculous. But then again, 1000 lbs is a lot to hold onto, even mixed grip.

Even with the bendy bars that are being used now, Jamal is a freak of nature.  His recent 971 meet pull wr was incredibly easy.

Yea, he seems to have gotten his grip sorted out.  His 971 definitely looked like he had 10 or 20 more in the tank.

Jamal, is he the guy that when at 17 he lifted the inch dumbbell at Sorinex?
