That filed 3.5 was so close! In a week or two it will be closes for sure. Amazing gripper progress

Could be up to 4-6 weeks those last mm are nasty stuff! Good thing is i haven't worked any BTR so hopefully it makes my normal closes easier. Hard to say if I made any progress TBH, the 188 is just a number. Doesn't feel like this gripper is close to 188 att all. It feels easier then my #3.5 rated 171.. But perhaps I was just superstrong yesterday..

You should have attempted your 171 to compare.

Im starting to think ratings are a little overrated. Seems like the sweep makes all the difference. A strong sweep 171 might feel harder than an easy sweep 188.

One evidence of the 188 not being so hard was that I actually set a PR on the backdowns. I did 2 attempts on the #188 and 1 attempt on the 210+ mutant. When I previously did 4 attempts on 171 I couldnt do any reps with GHP8 after. This time I could do 2x2 on the GHP8..

Yeah I'm not so sure about how to use ratings since the feeling of the gripper varies so much..

IMO you can’t compare ratings with grippers that are filed and/or have a very narrow spread. A gripper with narrow spread can have a very high rating compared to how it actually feels. Same goes for filed grippers.

That's my experience aswell so far.

A filed gripper is still the same as it was before filing. Only the very last range is different. And so if the gripper was easy to you before, you'd be able to power through the filed range.

I think the effectiveness of filing is vastly overrated. Tbh I'm unsure if it has any benefit at all 🤔

I have read studies of BTR that shows that it does work. But yeah hard to translate to grippers etc. My thought are that if I can close 178 but I have trouble with the last mm perhaps I can get work/holds in where I am weaker and also learn how to finish the gripper better. For example to get full power in soccer you don't kick the ball, you kick through the ball (same in boxing etc) so perhaps I can get value there, who knows!

Yeah, the logic is sound.

But at least in my own experience I haven't really experienced any benefit. And I have used btr extensively a couple of times. One time I used it alot, and when I changed to regular grippers I found that my ability to produce maximum force shifted further back in the hand.

So say I trained with a 140lbs filed gripper, then changed to a regular gripper with the same rating or a little bit lower, then I found that I actually felt weaker at the close with the regular gripper. Because while the filed gripper was 140 at the close, maybe it was 130ish where a regular gripper would close. So when using an unfiled gripper with the same rating, my hand would expect 130 at the close but the gripper is now 140 lbs at the close, so it felt weak. Like I was unconditioned in that particular range of motion.

But hey, a lot of People swears by it so it is probably something wrong with me 😁😂

We will see, I will continue the training with this 188 and then see where I'm at with the non-filed after!

I actually got my hope's up to be able to cert the #3.5 some day :D

You'll definitely succeed with that, you aren't very far off now even.

I once tried to CCS my 171 and was so far off I haven't tried since xD

I wonder what is the average level of people who certified on coc 3.5 ... Probably RGC 180 to 190 CCS, right?

The average #3.5 is 178 so I would like to ccs 185+ atleast. Many of them are coc#4 closers mms aswell

Was just about to say, almost every guy who certed the #3.5 could also close a #4 mms

If we follow this theoretical rule then to ccs a 4 should be able to close a PRO or 240 rgc
