My grip adventure

Lennix

Recommended Posts

Hello!

My name is Thom and I am 27 years old from Sweden. Weighing in at 115kg on my 192cm.

I've been into grip for 1 year and 4 months almost on the day. Outside of grip I have been doing powerlifting for about 3 years on an amature level. I thought it's about time i made a workout report here since I'm going more and more towards gripsport and not so much powerlifting (for now). I will write down everything I do at the gym not only grip. My focus have been on grippers until a week ago when i signed up for my first gripcontest which is 5 October - The Swedish Grip open.

My personal bests:

Powerlifting:

Squat - 237.5kg

Bench - 140kg

Deadlift - 280kg

Grip feats:

CoC#2 20 CCS

CoC#3 CCS

MM0

CoC#4 Silverbullet 3 seconds

DOH olympic bar - 227.5kg

1 Handed Deadlift - 120kg

1 Handed Deadlift with hook - 170kg

Axle - 180kg

Fatgripz Extreme - 125kg

80mm Pinchblock - 31.4kg

Vbar - 127.9kg

Kettlebell pinch 18kg

Framehold 285kg 13 seconds

Well that's all i could think of for now! Feel free to give me feedback on my lifts, thoughts about my training and advice you feel would do good. Discussion about these things is almost as fun as the workouts.

Awesome work @Lennix!

Did you have a sporting background before you began powerlifting?

Thanks!

Well, I did play soccer but quit when i was around 16. After that only some running!

Thanks for the reply @Lennix

I was just curious because you have near ideal height and limb lengths for Olympic rowing. With your natural athletic ability you would have been nearly perfect for that sport. Those guys are generally 10-15kgs lighter than you but I'm guessing you didn't weight 115 before you started lifting.

It would be interesting to see what sort damage you could do to a rowing ergometer.

117kg when i started going to the gym,  not 117 health kgs though. I had previous tried out gym a couple of times, always with the mindset workout, diet, new year new me and always failing. So this time around I did the opposite, began lifting and eating everything I could see. 9 months later I found myself weighing 126kg. From 2018.05.26 or something to 2018.11.25 i lost 16kgs and increased my squat with 2.5k and the same with deadlift. Loosing 10kg Bench though. Since then I've been staying around 110-115, sometimes cutting a bit of weight and then regaining it.

Rowing you say! If I go back to my other gym ill do a maxeffort 100m concept2 row for you :d

Don't beat yourself up my account @Lennix, I wouldn't want to see you interfere your main training.  Make sure that thing is bolted down well if you do try it.

If there is one thing I love is a challenge, but yea the problem is that it wont stay in it's place and I think ill scare the old ladies att the commercial gym to death if i try xD

Silverbullet 33 seconds

Pushups

12 12 12 12 30

Tried a new setup for the gripper, further back in the hand but during these 33 seconds I had to fight the back handle as it was slipping. Also tried new thumbplacement but had a hard time getting it there, will try more. Did like 5 sb setups with different times after the 33 seconds but kid woke up and kept me away for 30 min then couldn't fire up cns so only times around 7-10 seconds.

My arms and hands are pretty fried after yesterday!

What do you mean? It is not possible to setup mms on heavier gripper than #3?

When i setup the gripper in my hand i have two spots, one for mms just below calluses and the other further down my hand for CCS closes. When doing silverbullet with #3.5 and 4 I need to setup at the CCS spot to get my fingers around so I tried it for the #3 to see if it was better. It was not.

Nice work on the axle lift!

I noticed you did a 180 a few days ago, was the 185 a PR or just a normal training day?

Thanks!

185kg was PR but also just a normal training day, since it was my second time ever doing axle deads I still got a few workouts to get my CNS dialed in to figure out where I'm at exactly! I was close on 190kg yesterday aswell, got it up halfway!

I  didnt really believe when people said fatbar training ruins grippers, well I'm a believer.

Could just precisely close #3 once with my right. Then #3.5 2 seconds sb and like 3 tries more before I gave up and did 5 seconds with #3. Completely fried forearms.

Well well!

In my opinion you could win the comp in Örebro (depends on who is going to be there of course). Don't overtrain yourself on the axle. You will be very competitive with the numbers you pull already and SB is going to be important as well.

Yea I don't know which needs more training 30-35seconds SB or if I could get 175-185 on a non spinning axle (not sure how many kgs differ from spinning/locked) but I guess I'm going to put sb further away from axle on the schedule.

I would love to win at Örebro :D
