SilentDude
Yeah I find it even harder to grasp the bar too. When you say hold the elbows closer, how much closer?, becuase it's sorta hard to get them alot closer. You mean just enough so it isnt parrallel? Oh and thanks for all these tips Roark, it's a big help.
Roark
If the elbows are too close to each other, it's as counter-effective as if the hands are too close together. Because I use the on-knees method, my elbows are about a foot apart- today is wrist curl day, so I will measure and be specific later today. Roark
Elbows about 13" apart, from hand to hand about 15" apart. This morning's workout: after warmups, 125 x 6 145 x 6 165 x 6 at this point I knew I would be able to get ten reps with 185, so rather than waste that energy, I made my next increment to 190. 190 x 7 ( failed on the eighth rep) then 165 x 10 over a pad This is encouraging, and I will remain at 190 until 9 or 10 reps are accomplished, OR, if at my final warmup set of 165 the six reps are easy as they were today, then I will jump to 195- but one workout at a time. I must admit that others here who are showing an interest in wrist curls are causing me to push myself harder than I otherwise would. Also, I will become age 61 in late January 2004, and if I can stay on track and make small increases each month, I should be back to 225 x 6. But what I am doing now I have done before so there is some muscle memory involved- so I have not broken new ground yet and may in fact hit a wall soon. Guest David Fralick
I dont think many people here will be doing 190x6 anytime soon, even fewer will stick with it long enuff to get 225x6.
Roark
You will, David, if you continue at a safe and unrushed pace (if you get too close I will suggest a one year layoff ). In my case, it gets to be a mind game- that's why I never perform fewer than six reps. Even on a bad day with a weight you have done 6 reps, you will probably be able to get 4- it is not like failing on a single where you feel completely defeated. Right now my forearms are fried. SilentDude
Don't count me out. the man Reason I came here was becuase I wanted to have stronger hands to armwrestle. I thought my wrist were strong enough, becuase jy froarms were pretty big. But you have motivated me to do new things. My new goals to break the Wrist curl record
Roark
This morning, after warmups I knew I could not match my previous workout, so I just considered it an 'off form' day and had some fun. Over knees: 145 x 6 170 x 6 190 x 3 (could have gotten 5 but not more) 200 x 1 210 x 1 then over the pad: 170 x 12 To me, the pad reps seem easier than the knee reps. Does anyone else find that to be true?
SilentDude
Yeah, think it's becuase of balance issues. You have more of a base when useing a pad than your knees. Your useing alot of smaller muscles to help ba;ance it maybe.
Guest David Fralick
To me Pad reps are harder. You call that an off form day!!!
Roark
190 x 5 over knees, then, 190 x 6 over the pad
Roark
This morning 200 x 3 over knees, 200 x 2 over pad. But I have decided not to post any more claims about 200 lbs in the wrist curl until I line up a witness to establish that I can in fact wrist curl 200 even once. I feel this is necessary out of respect to other board members. It would be inappropriate to not be in the records section as a 200 pounder yet to claim reps in training with that weight! Once it is witnessed that I can wrist curl 200 for a rep, then I will post my progress in reps toward 250- which is now my goal. Make that long term goal. Jonathan McMillan
Roark, Looks like you had a very decent workout, hmmm.....maybe that carrot cake is anabolic Hurry up and git a witness so you can post your way up to 250!!! Roark
Often, I am either alone in the gym, or there are some ladies on the dreadmills who would not know a wrist curl's proper form, so they would not make good judges. Griz has been thinking about joining the gym; if he does I will ask him to be a witness. I can do a 200 lb wrist curl anytime I am rested so I'll try to get a witness for Thursday's workout. My very long term goal is to wrist curl 300 by my 65th birthday- that is more than four years hence. Wish it were 40 years hence!
OldGuy
Joe lives in fear of his wrists growing limp. This motivates him to keep on wrist curling!
imodnar_
My very long term goal is to wrist curl 300 by my 65th birthday- Good luck with your goal.
Roark
Again I was alone in the gym. Would have been in the club if I had a witness, so I'll call Griz to see what his schedule is next week. David Horne- have you no interest? Would you not qualify for the 300 pound section? Roark
Griz is distracted for a few days, so again today I missed a witness. Soon.
