Blob Patina

Hey grip folks.  I'm looking at buying a Fatman blob that was repainted with cheap black paint.  I like the brownish-red patina that most old blobs have (see pics- one looks like it was painted but the smaller not sure).  My question is: Is the patina from rust only or from the original paint + rust?  Were the originals even painted?  I'm wondering if I could strip the paint and rub my hands all over it regularly and get a nice patina.  Thanks!

They were painted originally, some just saw more use/abuse than others.  Don't strip the paint, it's a sin!

Obviously you never seen the Legacy Paintzilla fiasco.  ;)

I stripped mine,  I'm never gonna lift it one hand so I'm not worried about legitimacy. Turned out nicely,  the primer remained and it's a good surface now.

How did you remove the paint and leave the prime?  The blob I'm looking at is a half 90 - see pic - would like it to look more like the blobs I posted on the first post.  I don't mind a bit of work.  Seller feels the paint is cheap and will come off with relative ease.

The paint on the Paintzillas were ridiculous.  It took 5 strips on my 120 to get it off.

The seller is likely correct on that pic.  That's definitely not original paint.  If it was...which it's not...I'd leave it.

That said...I see no reason to keep that slick paint.  If you strip it and it becomes super easy...you will always have the option of spaying a coat or coats as you see fit.

I'll probably pass on it.  They come up enough that I'm sure I'll find one without needing paint stripping.

It wasn't intentional,  I'm assuming the primer was high quality and the paint wasn't.  I used normal liquid paint stripper. It was a new half 130.

Yep I stripped my Blobzilla that I bought during the paint issue. Much more enjoyable now, and it feels the same as Blobzillas without the paint defect
