Getting from a #1 to a #3 is obviously a lot of strength to gain in a small time period.

I hope you won't be discouraged enough to quit if it takes longer; that is very ambitious.  Good luck!

You will get it! I like how you will have the vids do the talking-best policy for sure. Best of luck

Good luck on your journey. I have a few suggestions if you really want to complete this goal:

1. I would practice specifically parallel set once you have other grippers and work on perfecting the set.

2. Get some chalk if you haven't already.

3. Once you begin getting into the 2 and 2.5 range and begin attempting the 3, try to refrain from overtraining and give yourself enough rest days between sessions. Less can definitely be more with grip. Overtraining can lead to a setback.

4. Work your extensors with rubber bands regularly! Developing tendonitis will also be a big setback.

It took me 6 months to MMS (parallel) set a #3. If I had closely followed those 4 points above, it may have happened in less time.

Dude, I’m rooting for you. I agree with Vinnie that I don’t want you to get discouraged if it takes longer.  I have always been among the smallest (thinnest) guys hanging around.  I’m about 160 soaking wet right now.  From the looks of your video, we started in similar places.

I have to say that currently you don’t appear to have the “gear” to get where you want to go.  I’m saying that with love. Short story: the first time I met with Warren Tetting, we discussed closing an IronMind #3. He held my hand in his, turned it over, felt my wrist and forearms, and said, “Well you don’t have the gear.”  He was right. It took me a couple years to build up the tendons and [insert correct medical jargon] in my arm. Two years at least. I just didn’t have the gear.

I’m not saying you can’t do it. I WANT to see you do it and will help any way I can. But having gone through what I did I would give you these two bits of advice now:

1) focus on wrist strength. Gains there will be the best thing you can do right now.

2) Deadlift.

Good luck with the number #3! I have the same goal. Hoping to close it before the year ends.

Unless you dont have the handsize of a kid I would say its always possible. But sure, might be a hell lot harder. Its strength and technique that is needed.

Also, I would suggest you buy the #1.5, #2, #2.5 and #3 right away if you dont already own them. You need to know what you are up against.

Edit: Missed the part with CCS close. Then it's another deal. My hands are not that small, and I think its difficult to close heavy grippers CCS and TNS.

There is no minimum hand size.  I have 7-5/8” hands and can easily CCS a #2.  So, mechanically, CCS closing a #3 is the exact same movement and the issue is strength.

I will say the bigger your hand the better, but there’s nothing to be done about it anyway.  :)

Starting strength 18th September 2018;

  • Right hand - can only just close a #1 for 1 credit card rep.
  • Left hand - about 2cm away from closing a #1 for a credit card rep

Have you tried the #2 with a parallel set before starting this training log?  I am curious how far away you are/were.  You closed the #1 easily enough that you were probably close on the #2 at the beginning.

If it's from the end of the finger to the wrist it looks something near 8", but not really sure where to stop around the bottom of the palm/wrist? And I guess it's also about the ratio of palm to finger length than just pure hand size?

Correct on the measuring.  Yeah you have to kind of pick the first crease and decide.  It's not an exact science, and also doesn't really matter.  As before, it's not like you can do anything about it.  I have not thought about the ratio much.  I have a longer palm than fingers and I feel like that is favorable for grippers.  Not so much for pinch, I think you want really long fingers there.
