8/24: Braced Bending

I'm not quite sure how I'm able to type this. THIS is my kind of volume workout

60dx1

12" Galvanized

9" Galvanized - 20-30 degrees. I think working chest and tri's was a bad idea shortly before a braced workout for short bar

9.5" Galvanized - TOUGH but done

3/8" x 8" HRS Square - Tiny kink, yeah the tri's aren't healed, time for mid-bar ...

1/2" x 20" HRS - Easy

1/2" x 18" HRS - Easy

1/2" x 16" HRS - Tougher but mostly the knee pain

5/8" x 30" HRS - HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND

5/8" x 28" HRS - Not hard. Didn't even have to use the crotch pull

1/4"x1" x 14" Flat HRS - Not hard at all

1/4"x1" x 12" Flat HRS - Tough but considering this is the 11teenth bend this is cause for optimism

Blob Work (all 30#, only blob left from the old collection)

x 10 per hand

Tosses from hand to hand

Toss from face to flat (never did this much before, it was fun)

Static holds x15s Right, 25s Left, 13s Right, 15s Left

Are you making your bending stock or where are you getting you stock from?

Killer workout though

I do not have a foundry where I can make hot rolled steel ...

A lot of this stuff is from a decade ago but in general I just buy from a local steel supplier.

Oh I meant do you cut it down or are you able to buy the sizes you want. I'm in the process of looking for a good local steel supplier myself as I want to start bending again and FBBC is not longer around who I used in the past.

For your bending do you only do DO or do you experiment at all with DU and reverse at all?

Ohhh. Haha. Most of mine is cut down by myself with 36" bolt cutters then filed with a steel file so the edges don't shred my wraps. Everything that uses the term bastard in any capacity is old FBBC stock but a lot of it is 7" so I cut it to the desired length. Everything that is just categorized by steel type is from a local supplier then cut to size with bolt cutters.

I mostly use DO but have done some DU and Reverse too. I am trying to be more even this time around. During my last bending journey I did almost exclusively DO and I am wondering if that hindered progress.

Someone said that FBBC is re-opened so you can go back that route. Direct from a supplier tends to be a lot cheaper but also more work.

Rough workout today. Biceps were still a little sore from Tuesday and I'm a little behind on sleep but those are just excuses. Bottom line is I need to be better than this.

8/30: DO Bending

Mag Bastard to 40 degrees - tried new wraps for rigidity but wound up slippery on the bar. Not feeling strong

Hexabastard to 20ish degrees - Same as last time. Hitting a plateau

3/8"x5.5" HRS to 2.75". Close. So close. Another quarter inch and it was probably done

5/16"x5.5" 1018 Superior Steel: Finished. Tough as hell. Feeling tired and this batch just never eases up

3/8"x8" Everbilt: Didnt know what to expect with this but it didnt even move in singles

3/4"x48" HRS: wasnt supposed to do braced but I wanted to feel accomplished. Long bar is tough for me but I got it done. Right knee still bruised from last time so it was mostly under thigh work.

Holy (bad word filter). I have a video or two forthcoming. Here's the workout

9/6: Braced Bending

9.75" Galvanized spike to 30 degrees - weird. Should have done 60ds to warmup

60d x1 DO

1/2"x15" HRS - HARD. Knee is still messed up from 2 weeks ago so all over and under thigh

3/8"x1.5" x48" Flat - Tough but not bad

5/8"x26" HRS - Super tough. New batch of steel so not sure if it was inherently harder or easier. Doing this over thigh is far from ideal but got it done

3/8"x1.5"x45" Flat

3/8"x1.5"x42" Flat

3/8"x1.5"x39" Flat

The board software automatically handles profanity.  It has had this feature for at least a decade.

I dont remember it censoring in that method but it has been almost a decade since I last actively posted. Gotta protect the children I suppose.

9/13: Braced Bending

60d DO x2

1/2" x 22" Square HRS

5/8" x 25" HRS

1/2" x 14" HRS

1/2" x 12.5" HRS

3/8"x1.5" x 36" Flat HRS

3/4" x 46" HRS

3/4" x 44" HRS

Ultralite 2 Shoe Hearted

SCROLLZ! Pretty sure all were 5 feet to start

1/8"x1/2" Flat

1/8"x3/4" Flat

3/16"x1" Flat

1/4"x3/4" Flat

Pretty damn fun workout. 3/4"x44" was my PR a decade ago and so was 1/2"x12.5". That one was brutal and tore my right hand. Still got in 4 more bends and 4 scrolls so I pushed through. The 44" actually went faster than the 46" so that was awesome. Knee is somehow still bruised with my last braced workout over knee being 3 weeks ago so most of this was over or under thigh.

Awesome work! Some nice bends and scrolls. Lots of volume.

Thanks buddy! Trying to catch up to you (and my old self) after a long layoff. Pretty impressed with the early results given I just re-started braced a few weeks ago.

9/21: Braced Bending

60d DO x2

3/8" x 10" Square HRS

5/8" x 24" HRS - probably 10 mins or more. Not even close to in time but got it done

3/4" x 42" HRS - LIFETIME PR!!!

3/8" x 1.5" x 30" Flat HRS - LOL. Barely kinked. This was the leftover of the 20 foot bar.

1/2" x 21" Square HRS

1/2" x 20" Square HRS

1/2" x 13" HRS (New stock. Testing.)

1/2" x 12" HRS - LIFETIME PR!!

Both of the lifetime PRs were barely inside of 5 minutes but I'm stoked regardless. I'm going to try for some videos next time. It's tough to be inspired to try for the cert list when the creator can change the rules after over a decade.😏😐

9/28: Braced Bending

40d Reverse - slipped in with the 60s

60d DO x1

60d Reverse x1

1/2"x1"x48" Flat HRS - 30 seconds, waste of a purchase

5/8"x23" HRS - 9ish minutes but finished

1/2"x1.25"x48" Flat HRS

3/4"x40" HRS - Quicker than the 42" last time

1/2"x1.25"x46" Flat HRS

1/2"x1.25"x44" Flat HRS

1/2"x1.25"x42" Flat HRS - Hard but I was also dead by this point, still under 4 minutes

1/2"x19" Square HRS

1/2"x18" Square HRS - LIFETIME PR, not really that hard either. Especially for the 9th bend.

1/4"x1"x11" Flat HRS

1/4"x1"x10" Flat HRS

I will have videos if my YouTube ever decides to work. Not quite sure why it is not uploading at all.

10/15: Braced Bending

60d DO

60d Reverse

1/2"x1"x42" Flat HRS

3/4"x48" Square HRS - Maybe a tiny wobble but looks like no movement

1/2"x1.5"x46" Flat HRS (Goliath -2") - Easier than the Goliath last week

5/8"x20.5" HRS - Stuck just shy of 90 degrees

3/4"x37" HRS - Finished but well outside of 5 minutes

1/2"x11.25" HRS - Finished but well outside of 5 minutes

1/2"x16" Square HRS - Stuck around 40 degrees

Haven't been sleeping well and I usually workout in the mornings but those are just excuses. I felt fine besides my archer technique (what I call the chest crush with one arm pushing down and the other posted on the same leg). For some reason I just had zero strength in that technique which is really bizarre. It is crucial to my mid-bar range and that is where I got stuck on the 5/8" and the 1/2" Square. Also slowed me down on the 3/4" and the 1/2". I really thought the 3/4" square would go but that seems to be a big leap from the Goliath for me. Disappointing all in all but I nearly skipped this so it could have been worse considering I'm coming off of 9 days straight working and 2 straight poor sleeps. Til next time b!tches.

I've grown terrible at logging my workouts in my old age. I'll try to remedy that using this log. I didn't log a handful of solid braced workouts prior to this but here goes:

11/21:

1/4" x 5.5" DO

1/4" x 5.5" Rev

1/2" x 16" Square HRS Stuck at 90

3/4"x36" HRS DONE outside 5 mins

Bastard DO

Big Bastard DO

11/24:

1/4" x 5.5" DO

1/4" x 5.5" DU

DO Work:

Huge Bastard - Quick

Grand Bastard - Quick

Shiny Bastard - Quick

Hexabastard - Quick

Big Hex - 2 Mins

11/26:

60d DO

60d Rev

1/2" x 14.5" HRS - Singles, harder than it should have been

3/4" x 35" HRS - Easy to 110 degrees then stuck. DONE in about 15 mins total

3/4" x 48" Square HRS ISO Work - Moved from barely wobbled to 10 degrees

6" G5 Rev

6" G5 DU

5" G5 Rev

5" G5 DU

11/28:

60d DO

60d Rev

Hard Huge Bastard (480ish) Easy

Hex Stuck at 20 degrees - Finished Easily

- Right Forearm issues -

Rubber Band Extensions

8# Sledge Work

Rotations @ 8" x 10 per hand per direction

Seated Front Levers @ 10" x 10 per hand

12/21:

60d DO

60d Rev

Big Shiny - Easy

Huge Hex - Crush harder than expected but still quick

Huge Shiny - Pretty Easy

Hard Grand Bastard (480ish) - Like a wet noodle

12/24:

60D DO

5" 60D DO

Mag Bastard - Sub 1 minute

Insane Bastard - 2 Minutes

Grand Shiny - Stuck at 2 5/8"

5/16" x 4" Everbuilt Stock - Stuck at 2.5"

1/2" x 11" HRS - Kinked 15 degrees and stuck

Bruised my right ring finger pretty bad on the Insane and I think it impacted me on the next 3. Grand shiny moved slowly, which is problematic. Get it next time.

All DO. Started working with doubles today and had some decent success

60d DO x2

3/8"x7.5" HRS in warmup wraps

3/8"x7" HRS in singles

3/8"x6.5" HRS in doubles (suede outers)

3/8"x6" HRS in double leathers (same from here out)

3/8"x5.5" HRS - tough crush, stopped at 1.9"

3/8"x7" Everbilt CRS

3/8"x7" BXC G2

3/8"x7" 307A G2 - Softer than the BXC

3/8"x6" BXC G2

Everbilt was definitely tougher than the G2s. Curious where it cals. I'm thinking a bit tougher than an Edgin but I'll have to try them back to back to test my theory.
