Is it normal for a thinner plate pinch to be more difficult?

I believe so.

If you look at the most commonly used widths for an adjustable pinch device, they mostly fall between 52-58mm (approx 2-2.25"). The 2x20kg plates from Rogue are 45mm (~1.75") together which is significantly smaller. For me, and probably others, the length of my palm is such that, with a thin width, I cannot use the first pad on my fingers or thumb to grip right at the rim of the plate. This difficulty is further compounded for me by the fact that my fingers are double jointed and will bend backwards, so I cannot apply finger pressure with my fingers straight, so I have to bend them and apply the pressure with the very tips of my finger.

These plates are also slicker than most regular plates.
