I never bent drill rod or those iron grips bars and don't plan on buying them.

Last I heard you weren't interested in drill rod, but since you've asked, all the major suppliers carry lettered O1 stock, McMaster Carr, Grainger, etc.

I've looked at drill rod on McMaster but it states all their O1 stock is in their softened (annealed). Would a softened temper rating weaken their yield strength?

I believe that all drill rod you buy, regardless of supplier, will be annealed. This allows it to be machined as the above article explains. I don't know anything about bending stock ratings but nobody is bending hardened drill rod. (annealed)Drill rod should be more difficult to bend than low carbon steel of the same size and shape because of the additional alloying elements in the same way stainless steel is harder than cold rolled. In my opinion based on my subjective experiences bending, 01>SS>CRS given the same size and shape. Hope this helps.
