Andrew Dube
Saturday October 24, 2020 Toronto Strongman Spectacular https://www.instagram.com/p/CG3EXYrAYqy/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link My symptoms were a bit worse again this week. I did a stool sample last week and they found blastocystis a common parasite that can be asymptomatic in people and most doctors opt not to treat and potentially mess up the gut lining even more. I'm hoping my relapse is just from pushing a bit too hard on the weekend with the contest and celebrating. Right now I'm just trying to figure out what I can eat. Won't be gaining back that weight anytime soon but I'll probably try to get some light work in tonight.

Andrew Dube
Some assorted training last week. We're having some crazy warm days right now so I got my sandbags out Saturday. Gut issue is more or less resolved but going to proceed with caution. Along with my appetite I've lost a very disappointing amount of strength. Going to start rebuilding both this week.

I'm certainly not qualified to comment on strongman programming but since you asked; yes I think some sort of conditioning work is important in strongman and the assault bike is a great tool. I looked for years before finding a decent used one in town at a good price. The assault bike IMO is perfect for max effort work. The harder you go the more resistance you get. Because of this I prefer calorie targets instead of timed intervals (I need to replace the batteries in my bike). Its also easy on the joint for bigger guys (not my problem). Moving and loading events are always my strength and I'm constantly surprised by how slow some people move between implements. This is where these events are won and lost. I think the best thing for training to move fast in medleys however is hill sprints. You're not going to be biking at the contest after all. That and just practicing the events with speed. Something I suspect a lot of people don't do and then wonder why they were slow on contest day...
