Catching up with the log...

I've been doing a lot of isometrics and other hard work near / at the handles closed position. Gripper setting and sweep are strong but I'm lacking the last millimeters of the close so that's where I want to spend my energy on.

22.11.2020

RH:

- #2; 3 mm band overcrush: 6 sec, 6 sec, 6 sec

- #3,5; handles extended 3/3 mm;

  * choked to 15 mm: 1 (few seconds hold)

  * choked to 16 mm: 1

- #3,5; handles extended 0/0 mm; choked to 12 mm: 0

- 3 squeeses on GM-150; results between 94 - 98 kg

- #2,5; GHP block set; new set on each rep: 3 x 1, 1 + 0 + 0, 1 + 0 + 0

LH:

- #2; 3 mm band; overcrush: 6 sec, 6 sec, 6 sec

- #2,5; MMS: 1, 1, 0 (failed to set)

Grippers and rolling thunder, but the strength wasn't there so nothing to report here.

31.12.2020

RH:

- GHP 7; GHP block set: 3 attempts. Definitely not strong closes but maybe I got it for a split second.

Video

- GHP 7; MMS: 1

LH:

Rolling thunder:

- 56 kg: 5

- 60 kg: 5

- 64 kg: 5

- 76 kg (I meant to load 72 kg but accidently put 76 kg): 1   (got it almost all the way up but the lockout wasn't good)

- 72 kg: 1, 3

Well maybe it was.

It's challenging to film these with grippers you can barely close. The arm and wrist are at a different angle than in a normal training so it affects the performance.

Yup, I know all about that, took me years before I figured it out. When you're going for a max attempt it's really hard to capture a good video. Only way of doing it is to film alot. Practice makes perfect.

As far as your attempt it was no "maybe". It was closed 100%. But video is of course far from perfect.

I was thinking to make an adjustable stand for gopro to be able to use more optimal positioning. And yes, it will still need a lot of practice and experimenting.

Funny thing with all out crushes, the hand doesn't stay in the location where you think to keep it. But I guess it just needs more distance between the camera and gripper to keep it on sight.

Grippers:

Right hand:

- GHP 7; #154; MMS: 1 (PR!)

- GHP 7; another #154 with a little wider spread; MMS: 1 (PR!)

- #3; #154; MMS: 0 (forced in)

- #3; #151; MMS: 1, 0

Left hand:

- GHP 7; cheat set between legs: 0 (≈ 10 mm open, forced in, unable to hold closed)

- #2,5; minireps: 5, 5

- #3; handles extended 5/5 mm; cheat set: 0 (< 5 mm open)

- #2,5; toughest one in the house; MMS: 1

Both hands:

- #1; GHP set: 10 + 10

- Guide for thumbs: 5 + 5 (x 5 sets)

- tried Trainer for thumbs, but no way I could train with them

Happy to finally be able to MMS close all three GHP 7's I have 💪

For a very long time there is some pain and feelings in the hands when crushing grippers. There is freezing weather outside so it must be the reason. The recovery is clearly weaker as always during winter time for me.

Nice man, congratulations on closing your 7s. I know what you mean about the cold I work outside in the cold and after work my hands will hurt for hours and my grip will be much weaker because of it.

Thanks. I really wasn't expecting that today.

Have you tried soaking your hands in hot water before / during your warm up on a cold day? I usually have my hands under hot water tap for several minutes and let the warmth reach the tendons and bones. It also works for forearms. Hot water may dry the skin, but it surely is better than injury due to cold hands.

I haven’t tried that yet. I just read that on here somewhere else too. I had two weeks off work for Christmas so haven’t needed to  yet but I’m back to work tomorrow so I will for sure give it a try next time.

Also just followed your log we are very close in strength. None of my grippers are rated so I don’t know exactly where I am at compared to you but should be good motivation to keep me going. I am assuming you are also working towards a ccs coc 3?

So it seems. The race is on 😁

I've rated the springs myself so I have no idea how the results are compared to the rest of the world. They seem to be pretty average though. But more importantly I know their order compared to my other grippers.

CCS COC #3 has been THE goal since day one when I had my first COC #1 in 2014. I hope we both get there one day.

Yup the race is on now. We will get there for sure your already closing it from mms that’s really good man. Have you been consistently training grippers for 6 years now?

Yes, little over six years now and there is lot more to come. There might have been few off-seasons here and there, mostly on cold winter time.

The progress have been slow but steady. Training not so hard keeps injuries away.

The plan is to do lots of isometrics, full force overcrushes and some choked gripper work for the next couple of months. They seem to be productive workouts for me and I also enjoy long gripper crushes with pressure in my head.

The cold weather have messed my workouts a little, but it's the same every year. It will get back to normal soon.

5.2.2021

RH:

- GHP 7; GHP set: 1, easy strong close, best so far

- #3, 158 lbs; cheat set: easy 6 sec hold

- #2; overcrush: 8 sec

- #3,5; choked to 11 mm: 0 (forced in)

- #3, 158 lbs; cheat set: 6 sec hold

LH:

-Rolling thunder:

- 60 kg: 5, 5

- 64 kg: 5, 5, 5

- 60 kg: 6, 6

Certainly the strongest gripper workout I've ever had. Got the GHP 7 like nothing. And I don't think I've ever been able to hold 158 lbs #3 closed set like this, but now it was easy. I almost didn't do the workout at all, because my hands felt so numb and not fully recovered, after doing a lot of bottom up kettlebell clean & presses two days earlier.

This week will be deload with grip and next week I'll continue working with the same plan.
