Don't really have a match plan.

Lately when armwrestling my friend I tend to make sure I stay neutral by applying backpressure and tense like i am holding a rowing motion so I can stop a hit, then without toprolling or going inside, I can directly go straight to the pad. Is this a bad technique that I developed? I don't truest my toproll because my fingers are shorter but I feel stronger when I just lock everything and try my best to stay neutral. I also have no urge to quickly cup and supinate even though my hook is definitely strong but to not risk it I tend to just make sure I am applying finger pressure so he does not toproll me while keeping me arm locked in as hard as I can. I want to know how to go about this and how I should train to feel confidenr with the other moves,
