Jason Paul
I know you've all been on pins and needles since my last post, waiting to hear about my first gripper. Well, I got it yesterday (after a week and a half!). I ordered the COC #1. I can come within about a quarter inch or so to closing it with my right hand, and can get to just about parallel with my left. One thing that surprised me was the sharpness of the knurling. It actually hurt my fingers to use it! My fingers are all red today. I only did about three sets of five reps (obviously partials) for each hand. My question is: Do I need to oil it or anything? Is there any special care it needs? Or just, don't leave it out in the rain! Thanks, Jason
Guest Dr Tom
No special maintenance needed. Just keep it in a dry place. It is not uncommon to get a little rust forming on the spring. If that bothers you, you can put a little "3-in-1" oil on it but it will come back anyway. I have a friend in the steel pipe business and she says the "steel rusts, period." Enjoy your new grip toy! Guest nygripfan
As far as the sharp knurling goes, you can wrap some black electrical tape around the handle that goes against the fingers. Joe Kinney demonstrated this in his video. Yet when he closes the #4, he doesn't use the tape. Ouch!!
