One of the biggest mistakes I made when I was younger was just "eating anything."  I missed the opportunity to maximize my muscle mass and hence maximize my strength as a powerlifter.  I could have been leaner and with more muscle mass if I knew what the hell I was doing nutrition wise and also eating like my body was a top fuel dragster rather than an old junk heap car.
