So what size/weight kegs are you tossing? In strongman shows you often see them throwing tiny kegs for height. I've got half barrel (full keg) and a quarter barrel (half keg), and even empty I can't get in position to throw them without scraping the ground. Do I just need to be taller, or am I doing something wrong here?

Full size keg, around 30 lbs empty. My technique is a little unorthodox in a way. Back in 2013 from my 1st strongman event, the head official told me of another way to toss it overhead. I tweaked it for me. I'll make a video one day soon on my keg toss technique. See if it helps

So you are still holding the handles I assume? Awesome, I'd appreciate that. You see lots of videos for carries or clean & press for kegs that size, but not many for throws.

I did, but now changed the grip of the keg. I'll detail it in the video

More of an upper body session tonight after work...

30 minutes on exercise bike

5x3 strict press

5x3 BTN snatch grip strict press 

*that sucked...*

1x20 DB flat bench press

Got a Barrel Strength Highland Ring in the mail today. So, trail run!!!

Well, I thought about some different kinds of squats, snatches, & globe deadlifts... Since, work whooped me & maybe from last few days, only did an hour of cardio today...

Tomorrow is some MMA training & Friday will probably be a rest day

Defrosted, decided to train... Thursday did a Lot of takedown wrestling drills, my lower back was on fire the next day. Friday was a rest day cause my back was hurting after work...

40 minutes on exercise bike

2x20 bodyweight squats

3x3 each Scots press

Front press & BTN press

5 sets

2 high pulls & 1 hip snatch

5x1 hang snatches

Close stance back squats ass to grass singles

Working up to 415 lbs, but the back started to bug me, so I stopped going heavy

*it was a long time doing heavy squats*

3x10 close stance back squats... back was ok during it, lower weight like warm up weight

Was doing some CCS closes with the COC 3 right hand, tried a parallel set left hand with 3... that's about it

Superset 3x10 each

DB rows & modified pull ups

1x25 DB back flyes

1x25 Bulgarian bag good mornings 

Left wrist was kinda sore as well

Thinking about training tomorrow either my house or savage city strength... Maybe, power cleans was follow up stuff... Monday could be some jiujitsu class

Went to Savage City Strength, decided to some lifting...

Tried some power cleans, some push jerks, straddle deadlifts!

*Hit 495 lbs on straddle deadlifts, felt like I can do more*

2 videos from the session

1 arm clean & press with 25kg plate

Left was in use of a strap tore callous off previously weight

Tried 400 lbs right only got a little air on it

 

I think may just train cardio this week feeling tight lately...

Yesterday did a hour of cardio & a few rounds on the heavy bag...

Today was nothing crazy

30 minutes on exercise bike

3x10 bodyweight split squats 

3x10 KB swings 

3x10 superset

Meadows rows & landmines

3x10 Bulgarian bag spins each direction

1x50 resistance band pull aparts

3x10 globe deadlifts 

It was a why not moment...

30 minutes on exercise bike again 

Tomorrow may be either rest day or cardio day

Thursday is MMA

Friday will definitely be a rest day

Saturday different story see what happens...

I lied, I lifted tonight...

Cold day in Jersey... Windy as hell...

Ripped my left thumb open... a co worker brought in a pack of bicycles, so I did... But, took a chunk outta my thumb

Decided to some lifts nothing crazy...

30 minutes on exercise bike

3x10 KB side to side transfer 

5x5 deadlifts

*only 305 lbs, used thumbless grip with straps, more for speed*

3x10 KB "hammer throw" drill each side

*saw this from Ryan Stewart top pro highland games athlete & lifted the dinnie stones, he got this idea from an Olympic hammer throw champion*

Tomorrow is MMA day!!!

Forgot to mention, looking at 2 events next year...

1) Jedd Johnson's event in February... Right now, it's a maybe...

2) jiu jitsu/submission grappling event in April... "Training Camp" probably start after the holidays...

Was having a crappy lifting session at Savage City Strength intil...

Strained my eyeballs, hurt my right knee... & saw a blue unicorn named Happy after this lift...

Yesterday, only did an hour & a half of exercise bike & 10 rounds on the heavy bag boxing...

Decided to change it up... more towards powerlifting these 2 days... not crazy weight...

30 minutes on exercise bike before training

3x10 KB swings 

10x1 back box squats

In between box squat sets, GHP block sets... 10 sets

Right: GHP 7 (8 outta 10 ain't bad, wrist was hinder after 7th set)

Left: GHP 5 (10 outta 10, left thumb still has cut on it)

3x10 DB semi stiff leg deadlifts

1x50 COC trainer parallel set each hand

Tomorrow, more towards pressing, probably close grip bench...

Wednesday could be cardio, core, &/or circuit training...

Well, today, my boy Shawn let me know about a strongman event on St. Patrick's Day. I guess put it in the "it's a maybe" pile...

More towards upper body...

30 minutes on exercise bike

3x10 band pull aparts

10x1 close grip bench with a pause

3x10 DB Arnold press

Grip superset: 3x10

Globe & wrist wrench deadlifts

*changed it up, but globe & WW with the same hand then the other hand

2x20 AW rotation movement strap with weight hanging

1x50 resistance band top roll movement

I think my wrists needed to get stronger. Hopefully, leads to less pain & soreness. Some of the arm wrestling movements helped in the past...

Decided to lift after eating a ton of holiday cookies at work...

KB swings & band pull aparts

Z press...

Working with a bunch of singles, tried to go heavier, but failed...

Z press 3x10 lighter weight

Close grip bench 5x10

Yates rows 5x10

DB back flyes 5x10

Haven't done in awhile...

5 sets of singles 2 35s plate pinch

5 sledgehammer finger walks

1st ever attempt...

Tomorrow may just train legs...

Feel like I've been overtraining recently, next 2 weeks may just train cardio

This holiday weekend was a good one, but a lot of food!... Mainly, cookies!

Went back to work today...

Going more powerlifting this week...

20 minutes on exercise bike

3x10 each tri set warm up

KB swings, side to side transfer, bodyweight split squats each side

5x1 back box squats 405 lbs

5x1 deadlifts 405 lbs

*going light, back was tight all day*

5x10 KB goblet squats

5x10 DB stiff leg deadlifts

1x25 Bulgarian bag good mornings

*probably, more that training split with upper body tomorrow*

Gripper parallel sets each hand

COC 1.5 4x25

COC trainer 1x100

20 minutes on exercise bike again 

See how upper body goes... right shoulder bugging me since Friday...

Cold day at work... not as cold as my dad hunting in Missouri... was -9°F!

Got the house to myself... Coffee, pre workout, & metallica method worked for training tonight!!!

30 minutes on exercise bike

3x10 each giant warm up set

Band pull apart, band rows, upright rows using judo belt & 25 lb plate, rear delt pulls using pulley handles & resistance band

5x1 close grip bench 315 lbs

*explosive fast & easy*

5x1 push press 185 lbs

*right shoulder nursed during this, but no pain or discomfort! Very happy, maybe more weight soon?*

5x10 caber pulls

5x10 BB incline bench

5x10 Arnold press

1x25 highland ring rows with resistance band 

Grip giant set 3x10 each

Globe deadlifts, wrist wrench deadlifts, AW scrap hook movement, plate curls, reverse sledgehammer lever lifts

*was going to be a superset, but kept getting ideas & adding on... didn't help I watched some arm wrestling videos during my lunch break... instead of old school monster truck racing*

Thinking about Jedd's event in February!... Heard today about a fundraiser deadlift event at Savage City Strength 2 weeks after that... Add that to the maybe pile

Well 2 training partners backed out from mma training tonight, both saying it's too cold, but my back is still acting up. Decided still to workout tonight, different fashion. Was thinking my girlfriend would come home tonight, but she is staying at her sister's for another night... So, crank up the blues & southern rock music tonight!!!

45 minutes on exercise bike

3x10 superset 

Bulgarian bag spins each direction & pulley strap good mornings

3x10 plate twists

Thought why not a pinching session, which is one of my weaknesses, still going light

5x10 2 hand pinch on poor man's euro 95 lbs

5x10 IM pinch block 40 lbs

10x1 2 35s plate pinch

10 sledgehammer finger walks 

Hands & wrists taking a toll... Still feel good, may have to get a grip contest a go!

Gonna train tomorrow night, probably something Olympic lifting with country crush, rolling thunder, or both!... This Saturday, can't train got a lot going on that day...

Started my workout later than I wanted... It happens... Tried to Get It done quick...

30 minutes on exercise bike

Warm up giant set 3x10 with kettlebell

Swings, goblet squats, sumo squats, side to side transfer

5x1 Chun snatches

*like a muscle snatch finished on the balls of your feet... tougher than it looks*

5x1 overhead box squats

*another new exercise to try*

3x15 seated DB shoulder press

3x15 1 arm DB rows with fat gripz

3x15 superset

Back flyes & band pull apart

Grip...

5x10 country crush deadlifts 215 lbs

*kept it light*

3x10 rolling thunder deadlifts 145 lbs

1x50 bus driver movement on 25 lb plate

Actually, did this before grip training. Saw this from 2 arm wrestlers...
