Why do Arm wrestlers wear a band around their arm during a match/before a match?

I often see Arm wrestlers wearing a band around their arm. Does this do anything?

Picture has been taken from recent match between Alexey Voevoda and Tim Bresnan.

Yep. Arm warmers were a common sight at tournaments in the '80s and '90s, but for some reason, few pullers wear them now.

It's not the time of that matches so much as the time between weigh-ins/warm-ups and the actual match. It depends on how the organizer does the brackets too. Most of the time the lightest class pulls first. Sometimes the weight class with the smallest number of competitors pulls first. You never know ahead of time. So guys that get warmed up want to stay that way in the event they have to wait long amounts of time before competing.

I've never used one but the guys that do swear by them.

Specific to armwrestlers. Most of the ones I remember seeing looked like ice hockey socks.

You can get them here: http://www.usarmwrestling.com/livetopull.htm

Since you can have long waits between matches wearing one of these on your pulling arm is wise, so you don't cool down too much. My daughter (Taylor Johnson) is a multiple national champion in the US and took 4th at Worlds left hand 121lb in 2015 in Malaysia; and I always had her wearing one of these between matches.
