One hand lifts

Nick asked for more non-gripper topics. One that might be worth pursuing is one-hand lifts. I find liting weighted olympic bars to be very awkward; it becomes a balancing problem long before it becomes a problem of grip giving in. On the other hand, the balancing does have something to do with hand strength as well.

What do you guys who train one hand lifts think? Should a trainer use a long bar, a short bar, or perhaps just a ring? Or is variation the key to success?

Solan,

I've just loged on to post a similar question.

Took a week of work and I've been sat in the garden reading about the lifts of Edward ashton and thomas inch.  The norm seemed to be one handed lifts although i would imaging on much shorter length bars than an olympic bar of today.

I did get to thinking though if anyone as tried to shoulder a weighted olympic bar with just one hand and what weights have you obtained.

Tom

Solan,

I think variation is the key.  Long bars, short bars, thick bars, thicker bars, and rings all have their place.
