Starting Planning For Az Cactus Grip 2016 Comp

Hey guys I am in the early stages of planning this comp. I have a few ideas for the events and a window for the dates and wanted to get feedback from potential competitors. I am open to hear if you think we should run a different event or if you like what I have in mind.

Dates currently considering: Saturdays from 3/19/2016 - 4/9/2016

Events currently considering:

Grippers - 20mm Block set

2HP - Euro

And \ or 2x5" Saxon bar Pinch DL

Plate Loadable Thickbar DL to platform - Custom piece I am in process of machining. Will be solid handle 2 3/8 to 2.4", Inner plates will be machined in spherical profile matching regular Inch DB and overall should well match dynamics of regular globe DB. Should be loadable to well over 200# at 27" length. Will be tested as max weight to platform.

Or for thickbar 1H axle DL

Optional event depending on how many competitors plate mount hub DL for height or to platform. Or solid mount on top of loading pin.

Those are my thoughts right now. The DB would definitely not be one of my better events but may favor others. I think it would be fun though and a good way to get me to finish up that piece of equipment. Any comments?

Looks like 4/9 will be out. Have a Parent \ Teacher work day for my daughter's school that day.

Inch Loadable DB sounds awesome!

I think hub would be a great event too. I haven't trained hub in a long time.

I know of no conflicts in April as of now.

Let us know what days you might have available Andrew.

Now if Jedd's sister would just have another baby in April, you could car pool ;-).

Any comments on the proposed dates? Hoping to finalize this shortly. Possible dates again are: 3/19, 3/26, or 4/2. Any Event comments? The plate loadable Inch DB handle has been made as are the initial prototype hemispherical inner plates, and it will be the thickbar event. Going to try to make another set of the inner plates for the contest so I can sell the prototypes.

Planning to make some nice custom full size grippers for the top 3 prizes.

I'd really like to make it again but I can't justify the expense this time around.

May need to ping Frank and see if he has a preference? I don't think he's on this board much.

Don't know of any other people in the PHX area that are interested in Grip at the moment.

No more additional entries so far. Work is progressing on the trophy grippers as well as trying to get final equipment for the comp built as I have time. Here are some pics of the first first trophy gripper Handle. I'm still making pieces for the set and winding springs. I did the wood stain last night and just need to do the spar urethane for the final stuff on this wood in a couple days. Surprising amount of work going to go into each of these.

Just about 4 weeks out now. Time to get your entries in if you are planning on coming. At the very least let me know.

Handles are looking amazing. Can't wait to see the finished product.

On the DB lift, will tilt be allowed?

Thanks!

A little tilt will be allowed but not much. It should be pretty level. The plan is to lift it to 18" platform if I can get it made in time. If not then the bell will need to clear the knees with both ends of it (roughly the same height as the platform for most of us). Not planning on requiring lockout since that can sometimes be tough to judge without a long pause at the top.

Side note, I gotta make sure to have enough small plates on hand for Gil for the DB.
