Jared Goguen
So there's four different fat bars I am looking at and I not sure really which route to go here. I'm mostly looking at, Ironmind Apollon Axle, Sorinex Fat Bar, and Two options from Rogue. I haven't done any fat bar training but I would like to get into it and incorporate it into my training, so any advice would be great. I know that I could just get a steel pipe which I already did only to later find out that it already has a bend to it. So I just want something real at this point. Ironmind Apollon Axle: Price: $250 Weight: 33lbs Size: 7' x 2" diameter Sorinex Fat Bar: Price: $175 Weight: 25lbs SIze: 7' x 2" diameter Rogue Axle: Price: $125 Weight: 25lb SIze: 7' x 2" diameter Rogue Branch: Price: $165 Weight: 39lb SIze: 6' 6" x 3" diameter
climber511
Unless you have pretty huge hands - I would avoid the 3" bar. Any of the others would serve you well. The IM Axle is 2". I "think" the other two are both 1.9" bars.
Electron
I think Chris is right on all counts. The IM bar is very well made and will serve you well in a future comp if you decide to host. The others are just as good to train on and ship for cheaper. The difference between true 2.0" and 1.5"ID piping is ever so minute. I pull the same, and so do most. Historically, the wheels had a 1.875" OD but Ironmind choose to standardise theirs at 2.0".
rico300zx
Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=141048302292&alt=web cfffit on ebay (or type in strongman) has a really nice one with knurling like an olympic bar. Chez
I have the rogue axle. It is cheap and I think it ships for like 15 bucks. I pull almost exactly the same on it as the IM axle. If you plan on hosting comps then you need the IM axle otherwise the rogue axle is perfectly fine for training. The rogue axle is basically a schedule 80 pipe axle with collars welded on and painted. You could make it yourself if you're handy. I'm not handy and super lazy when it comes to making stuff, so I just bought the rogue one.
climber511
I just read your profile, you're a do it yourselfer - make your own as Chez said. Schedule 40 works OK for just grip - schedule 80 is better if you do strongman and expect to drop it from overhead. All you need is 7' or so of 1.5" pipe (or handrail - handrail doesn't have the coating like pipe does so that's pretty nice) - a couple big washers for inside plate stops and weld those on. Something to be aware of is that many Olympic collars are too loose on the pipe bars - others are OK. Personally I like bare steel better than any coating. I just checked rogue's site and it appears they only have the powder coated axle available. When I bought mine they had a slick paint version and that is the one I got. The description of the powder coat states that it improves grip so you may pull more than the IM one. I usually try to have training equipment that simulates comp conditions as closely as possible when I can't get the real deal. Billy Jack
I have never seen this bar mentioned on here before, but I took a chance and bought a OneFitWonder axle from fringe sport. It is a true 20kg axle and I love mine. It is $139 and it ships free and has free returns if you are not satisfied. It also comes with a set of strongman screw down collars as well. Hard to beat that deal. 2

I honestly did not know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised overall. The bar feels great and the welding and steel are top notch. Very fast shipping for me as well.
steve0
Mine is solid 2" cold rolled steel. I bought it from a local metal supplier. They welded on the washers for me. Look for a local supplier and give them a call.

I also have a 3" bar it's too bit for my short fingers but awesome for zercher squats.

The feel of the solid axle was so much better of a feel. I ends up getting rid of the Ironmind with no regrets.
gerryg
I'm thinking about buying an axle soon. The Ironmind axle is out of my price range so I'm thinking about buying the Rogue axle or Arm Assassin axle. The Rogue is about $150 shipped to my house and the Arm Assassin is $125 shipped. Does anybody have a picture of the Arm Assassin axle?
devinhoo
Depends on if cost is an issue. I keep trying to convince the owner of the gym I go to to buy a cheap Titan axle. I know he'll never host any grip or strongman events, but the gym has enough other weird off-standard strongman implements that I don't think a dirt cheap axle bar would hurt. Sure would make it easier than training with farmer's handles. If I was going to be in one place for a while or had a home gym I would probably DIY one or buy from AASS. Bearhugger
I have the Titan axle bar which is a fraction of the price of every other one I’ve seen. I have the short one but I’d recommend getting the longer one. Works fine though.

Be aware, guys and gals , a lot of people don’t want promotion of Titan fitness equipment on the board because they aren’t hosts of anything grip or affiliated with the board or sponsors in any way. I have, in the past, stated my thoughts on the Titan equipment and have been corrected to not do so, or “frowned upon”.

Mike Rinderle
Luke is my buddy and he makes great stuff, so I will always say go with Luke and you can't go wrong. However, know that his axle is 1.9", which is slightly smaller than the 1.98" IM Axle that you would see in most contests. For training purposes, that won't matter much, but you would have to correct for the weight you use on a bigger axle. Also, spring collars and the cheap plastic clamp collars won't work on a 1.9" axle. You would need the screw down kind. The Rogue axle is also 1.9". I own an axle from the company that shall not be namd. I think when I got mine, it was $49 shipped. Now they are about $65 shipped. In the advertising jargon on the page, it states it is a 1.9" axle, however, in the specs it says 1.98". I measured mine and it is 1.98. My collars fit on it just like an oly bar. It is powder coated, but I haven't noticed a difference in weight I can lift on it vs. a bare steel IM axle. The Rogue axle is powdercoated as well. I've pulled 550 on it and it handled it like a champ. No flex as you can see below. I think it is rated to 660 lbs. I’ve talked about Titan multiple times on this board and never had this experience. Not sure I’ve ever seen it either. With that said I’m a frugal bastard but if I was going to spend money I’d buy from Luke over Rogue any day.
Blackjaw
I will 3rd or 4th Luke making quality/bullet proof stuff. I am new to the grip game but have pretty much decided to go with his stuff whenever I can.
