The 525 would have likely gotten red-lighted at a meet, due to not being fully locked-out.  (The bar started to slip a little at the top, due to not having a good grip with the finger issues on my right hand.)  But it was still the most I've gotten to lockout on deads in a few years, which I'll take.

The 305 bench was with a pause and felt pretty decent.  Definitely not easy, but no stalling.  As far as the shirted reps, not being able to get into a place with a crew has made it difficult.  (My wife has been lifting off for me the past few weeks in the shirt.)  But, with my loose shirt, I think 350-360 would be plausible.  The 1-board reps today were with the sized-down (meet fit) shirt, and were OK, but definitely shaky.  At the meet, I am going to open with 300-310 raw and then probably throw the shirt on for a 350 second attempt, and then likely 375-385 with the slightly tighter one.

One thing I've noticed lately is that the Diamond Classic horseshoes seem to be consistently harder now than ones I was bending back in 2012-14.  I am definitely not the same type or power of bender when compared to back then, but it seems to be pretty significant.

Today was the last squat/deadlift session before next weekend's meet.  Although I wasn't feeling particularly strong today, I had to at least get in my openers.  I probably shouldn't of taken an attempt at 530, but did.  Missed it half way up.  600 still remains a dream for me and I'm not ready to give that up yet.  (My best training deadlift was 565 about 5 years ago.)  For this meet, the goal is 525.

Weight-wise, I have been stuck at 204-205 for the past week.  Things I did in my late-30s/early-40s that worked don't seem to be working anymore, to lose those last 5 lbs.  I have successfully cut water weight up to 8 lbs. a few days before the meet, but have been advised to avoid that with a past history of kidney stones.  So, if I'm not down to 201-202 in a few days, I will compete as a very light 220.  I'm not going for any records or anything, so not that big of a deal.

Just trying to get in some work before the meet.  I was going to take the next few days off, but I needed the outlet.  Pull-ups felt decent ... still some pain in the bicep and forearm but nothing like the past few weeks.

Sat (9/28)

RPS 5th Set Black 2 Meet
9/28/2019

When I decided to do this meet, I was planning on competing at 198.  But when conservative weight loss failed, I decided to compete as a light 220.  (I used to cut water weight pretty easily before meets, usually going from 205-206 down to 195 the week leading up.  But my PCP advised not to do this anymore.)  So, I didn't do anything specific for weigh-in.  I actually weighed-in with clothes (minus shoes) after work on Friday, to give myself an extra hour Saturday morning.  We ended up going out with my wife's family in Pittsburgh for her birthday.  (I normally don't do this before a meet, but went with the flow this time.  Thankfully, I got home not-too-late and was able to get some decent sleep.)

I ended-up weighing-in at 207.  I was going to try to gain some weight, but wasn't really lifting for any records or anything and just went in as I was.  The meet was held at a gym in a mall about 20 minutes outside of Pittsburgh.

Overall, I felt pretty good going in and a lot of the injuries that have been building up the past few months were showing signs of improvement.  I competed in the Men's 220 class, in the Open and Masters 45-49 single-ply division.

Squat
425 - good
455 - good
475 - good

Bench Press
305 - good
345 - good
375 - good

Deadlift
485 - good
500 - good
525 - good

Total: 1375

Overall, I was very happy with my performance.  Going-in, I was hoping to break 1300, with 1325 as a good possibility.  My squat opener was very easy.  I wore sleeves for the first two attempts and 2m easy wraps for the 3rd attempt.  The 475 was tough, but was pretty deep and moved OK.  Training alone (with wife) in my shirt has left me with very little confidence with it.  So, I decided to open with 305 raw.  This is a little lower than what I've been doing in training with a good pause.  I got in great position with the first attempt.  This, along with a little meet adrenaline, caused 305 to feel like 275.  Could've probably opened with 320-325 raw.  I put on my size 50 F6, which is very loose all-around.  345 went OK, almost like a max raw attempt.  After gaining some confidence with bench, I put on my size 48 F6 (which is still not really tight) adn went 375 for my 3rd attempt.  (Most of my shirted reps in my basement have been sketchy, especially having to flatten out to help my wife get the lift-off for me.)  But, I was able to get a solid base and position for the hand-off and took it down perfect, got the press command, and blew it up with speed.  Almost felt like an opener.  I could've hit 405 the way the 3rd attempt went, if I would have had it on the bar instead.

In training, my top deadlift this past year was a rough 525.  I pulled 525 recently, but it was hitched and not fully locked out.  Going in, I realistically thought I was good for 515, but wanted 525.  My opener of 485 felt tough, and my hands were hurting.  So I called for 500 on my second attempt.  The same thing.  A tough, slow pull and my hands were hurting worse.  I almost passed on my 3rd attempt, but decided to go after it anyway.  I called for 525, which would give me a 1375 total.  I broke the floor very slowly, and fought a grinder to the top.  I thought I was going to lose the bar on my left side, but managed to hold-on until I got the down command, giving me the final lift, and enabling me to go 9 for 9 for the first time ever, in over 20 meets.  My only regret was not getting in better work with the shirt and essentially wasting an attempt, which otherwise would have given me a higher opener and a shot at 400-405 for a final attempt.  Overall, it was a great meet, and I was very happy to get back on the platform and be relatively successful.

I didn't really want to anything after the meet, except lay on the couch and recover, but had to find enough leftover to get in a quick bending session as it was time to bend the Red again.

Just ordered some. Can’t believe they ship them to me without paying first. Never seen that before.
