First day of conventional pulls since the original headache issue, back before Christmas.  Wasn't sure what to expect, and was concerned prior, but all worked out OK it seems.  Definitely not worse, so that is cause for optimism.  425 is probably around 85% of my 1RM (raw, conventional), so will likely attempt to stay in the 85-90% range for top sets, and avoid all-out pulls for awhile.

I made a failed cert. attempt for SS4, with a 240k bar.  Very, very hard.  Ended up taking it to about 50 degrees, but not really much of a shot with it.  Curious, I made a similar-length attempt with some easier stock and took it down.  It actually matched my all-time "mid-bar" PR done in 2011.  I was certain at that time, that the (21.8") bend would never be surpassed, as it just takes too much out of you, and at the time, I was already closing in on 40.  I never, ever thought I had a chance to be back in that range again.  For that, I am surprised yet appreciative of the possibilities, especially with the Steel Shredders 4 comp, as it has given me the motivation to really push this style of bending hard again.

These contests are so great because we end up pushing ourselves past what we would accomplish just bending normally without the competitive aspect. Your bending has been going strong lately. This is all fun stuff.

Been awhile since I've closed my 133lb. gripper.  The rep was quick and strong.  Going to start making attempts at more grippers in this range, and hopefully get back to where I was a few years ago.

Steel Shredder 4 Attempt
5/8 x 23.5" (243k) - 100-105 deg.

I was not feeling anywhere close to 100% but tried the bar anyway, as tomorrow is the last day of the competition.  This bar was from the new January batch and was tough.  Hands were hurting pretty good toward the end, then I didn't have anything left.  Currently in 5th place in the overall standings.

Steel Shredders 4 Attempt
5/8 x 24.5" (243k) - 95 deg.

I made one last attempt, on the last day of the competition.  Someone moved up in the standings (Top 5 places medal) and bumped me down to 6th.  So I had to try, despite feeling pretty messed up (all around).  This bar was from the brutally hard batch from March of last year, when David Horne first began doing the rated steel for certs.  I tried two of these bars back then and was essentially shut down.  Way harder than any HRS I had done before.

Gave this attempt 100% and whatever I had left.  The kink was brutal and by the time I got it to 90-95 deg, I was completely worn.  I finished 6th place in the final standings.  One regret was not trying for a 23.5 or 24" attempt on the day I did the 5/8 x 25" (228k) bar a few weeks ago.  That bend was done in one minute and I definitely had more in the tank on that day.  Unfortunately, that was the last bar I had from that batch.  I surprised myself with getting back down to the 21-22" range with the 5/8" bars (bent a 22" bar recently in training), as I never thought I'd get back there when I quit mid-bar 5-6 years ago.
