I made an attempt at a scroll, in-preparation for Don's upcoming contest.  No real idea of what I'm doing with it, but wanted to get some work in and hopefully figure a few things out.  Very awkward!  I made an attempt at my first 3/4" bar in at least a year, probably longer.  It went better than I was expecting and was fluid throughout.  I'd keep doing these year-round, but the expense of steel now is crazy, and I forgot how much these bends can beat you up.

I got the 175 press about halfway up on the first attempt, but couldn't break through the sticking-point.  On the second attempt, I was barely able to get it moving (strict press).  Grippers felt pretty good today.

* I ordered some stock recently from Metals Depot.  I've written about this in the past, with the quality of the steel, almost bending like CRS.  Once again, I wasn't disappointed.  The 28" bar almost didn't kink on my initial attempt.  (I've bent at least 75 mid/long bars over the past decade and have a pretty good idea of what to expect at each point of the bend, and how the bar will respond.)  I think I got a total of 5 degrees on my first several attempts on the kink.  Definitely mutant stock.  I stayed on it and was able to take it to almost 90 degrees, but didn't want to continue, as my legs aren't really acclimated yet to the stress it would've taken to bend it any further.  All-in-all though, a good session with really brutal stock.

Overall, a pretty decent session today.  I'm not where I want to be with bending, going into Don's competition, but things are seeming to mesh OK.  If I had to put a number on it, I'd say I'm at 80% of where I'd want to be, or were I have been in recent years.  The 3/4" bar was harder stock, so I wasn't going to destroy myself trying to take it much further this close to the competition.  Also, have been fighting through cold-like symptoms the past few days, which hopefully is done by next week.  I felt pretty beat-up afterwards and can only imagine what we're going to be feeling like after the competition.  LOL

I'm skipping deadlifting this week to hopefully help with post-comp recovery and get back at it.  I've never felt so run-down after a competition like I do now.  Maybe 2 years ago, but only for a few days, not going on 4.
