The 1045 I have is tough, and feels a lot harder than similar diameter stainless throughout the bend on the crush and similar to thicker steel at the same length. The kink was slow and I held the hit for a few seconds, and then it just snapped, with a popping sound. For a second, I was worried that I was going to get gashed, but was far enough from my neck/body that nothing happened. It turned-out to give me some trouble, as I couldn't really get the shoe to stay in one place. Almost like easy 1/4" O1 drillrod. Never had a square bar bend like that before. It really made the Grade 8 after it that much more difficult.
