I was anxious to get back to some bending.  Wanted to wait until the weekend, but too difficult!  One of my big goals for 2018 is to snap a Red Nail.  This was the first HRS bar of the same dimension I've done to-date.

I decided to attempt the Red Nail break today.  Definitely a tough bend but didn't take as long as I thought. (I was expecting 20+ minutes, but was able to get it in around 8 minutes.)  The next goal with this feat would be smaller/thinner wraps, which I will continue working towards.

Wed (5/16)

DO - IMPs
60d spiral
Yellow Nail
1/4 x 7" square
Red Nail

After bending today, I tried to wrap a few bars up in leathers and 1.5 wraps, including the Duke of all Bastards, but didn't have much luck.  With nearly all of the stock, I couldn't get anything into position.  (In the past, I've never bent with thicker wraps, aside from a few bends here-and-there, but don't remember having too much issue with positioning.)  It seems with advanced age and all of the years of wear-and-tear, I have lost a lot of shoulder flexibility, despite having increased the focus on this specific aspect of my training in recent years.

I am going to assess things with double-overhand over the next few weeks, but it appears that my days of PRs with double overhand are long done.  Over the past 5-6 years, I have been attempting to maintain a certain base with it, to be within striking distance of some bigger bends after 1-2 months of target focus, but at this point, it doesn't seem like it is possible, or safe anymore.  (Most of my best DO bends anyway were 2010-13.)  I will likely attempt to maintain a Red level with IMPs as long as I can continue, but doubt I will be chasing any bigger bends with DO anymore.

As it is, I will turn more focus to DU and keep trying to take down PRs with IMPs and thicker wraps.

I used David Horne wraps on the snap, which actually seemed to help my time, as compared to the thicker wraps.  Maybe because I was able to get a tighter crushdown?

Grippers felt pretty weak.  I am not one of those people that can maintain a high level with grippers, if I do not train them hard.  As soon as I back off and/or drop training volume, my numbers drop.

In the steel shredder 1 comp, I tried double DHWOG wraps once and found it harder because you could not crush down as much. The bars are easy to bend so I think there is no advantage to bigger wraps in that type of snapping.

The 5/8" braced bend was tough, but relatively fast.  (This was the first sub-26" bar I've done in close to 6 years, I think.)  It's tempting to make another run at the Top 10 on the leaderboard, but I don't know if it is possible anymore, or if the body would hold up to going through that again.  The most likely scenario would be to keep bending 5/8" bars at the 27-28 range for fun.

That is tough to get good movement on that bar DU. Nice job!
