gurds
Hey. I am very close to closing the HG 250. When I get towards nearing the close my pinky slides off the gripper completely leaving me with only 4 fingers left on there and I can't complete the close. I use chalk. I put the dogleg in the palm of my hand with the gripper high in the palm. But I think my thumb should be close to the spring and not toward the middle of the dogleg handle? At the moment it is towards the middle but from videos that I have seen of people closing gripper they always have their thumb close to the top of the handle- i.e. spring. Is this the solution to the problem? Thanks. I alos using the ISG twice a week alternating between heavy negs and overcrushes. I am nearing doing heavy negatives with the entire ISG (w/ 2 springs) on max setting and am usually holding it at lockout for around 13 secs. I feel I have strength but technique on torsion spring grippers needs tweaking.
Mephistopholes
Not sure about the thumb, but in regards to the pinky sliding off, I've had a similar problem. I have big hands, so my fingers pretty much take up the entire handle of a gripper. What I have to do I essentially bunch up my pinky and my ring finger together, so the ring finger kind of holds the pinky on there. Also, and this may be obvious, but chalk up. Haha. In case you're not already. Edited October 29, 2012 by Mephistopholes
Adam Moyers
Move your fingers towards the spring just a little if you can. HG's are slicker because of the dull knurling. If you try a COC or Tetting gripper, your pinkie might not slip off.
gurds
Thanks, does anyone know then where the thumb should be on the dogleg? i.e. http://www.leehayward.com/grip_training.htm see how clay has his thumb very high on the dogleg near the spring? I usually have my thumb slightly lower down on the dogleg. Is it more advantageous to have the thumb higher up? This is what every top gripper seems to do. Am I missing a trick here? Mephistopholes
I never thought about it. Haha. My thumb just finds where it should go after the rest of my hand is properly placed.
Mephistopholes
I think you're just over thinking things here.
daniel reinard
^+1 Either simply grip higher or make sure you are leaving room for the pinky during the set, right before you fully grip the handle.
gm1swm
As stated above by the last two, HG grippers have smoother knurling. When closing the gripper, your pinky should be half way on the gripper. If your pinky is slipping off, it's matter of sharper knurling, more chalk, more practice with setting the gripper and finding your sweet spot...or a combination of any of these things. gurds
Thanks, what I did to fix this is wrap the HG handles with duct tape!
