Donc101
1 hour ago, anwnate said: What is this a picture of? Answer: a life lesson. I had grandiose ideas of bending 50 bastards in IMPs today. Life had other plans. I bent a Red to warmup and it went surprisingly easy. Literally the first hit on a bastard...my right index tore. First freaking hit. I went over to my 1985 camera and turned it off. I sat down and collected myself. Fck it...put a bandaid on and power through! During the first 4 Bastards...both index, both middle knuckles, and my right palm all tore. During the 5th Bastard...my back seized on me. Is someone trying to tell me something? I limped through the next 5 Bastards and sat to think. So many things were whirling in my head. I was thinking depressive thoughts, frustration, anger, sadness...basically falling for that old familiar trap again. Seriously...what is so special about today that I needed to accomplish this feat this Sunday? Nothing. So...I'm gonna try and be less rigid about daily goals and try and follow my body's signals more. If I can figure out a way to incorporate biofeedback into my bending...I will. Most of all, I'm going to try to unchain myself from "expectation" and accept what comes. "Try" being the operative word. You are good Nate. Don’t let it bother you at all. I fail things I want to do all the time. 1 week before the 66 6” Bastards I was supposed to do 33 and could only do 10. Sometimes our bodies just are not on top of our game for whatever reason. Just flip it as a positive. Now those hands will heal with good callouses and will be tougher. Have a good one. 2
anwnate
Preet cool session. Red in IMPs. Red in 2/3 IMPs. Red in 1/2 IMPs. Red in 1/3 IMPs. Woot! Red in 1/4 IMPs (36s). WOOT! I gave 24s a half hearted try but I was getting wussy (7 tears on hands now)...so it wasn't happening without belief. Anyway...if Reds ends weren't jagged as sin...I'd be confident about a barehand bend down the road. Maybe a Bastard though.

anwnate
So my hands are beat up...but I wanted to bend. I found a road to KOAB from TJ in one of the threads...so I decided to see what energy I had. Red in IMPs. Bastard in IMPs. Bastard 6.5" in IMPs. Bastard 6.0" in IMPs. Holy hell that crush sucks (in IMPs anyway)...especially beat up. I knew there was no point going for a shiny after fighting that crush...so I called it. Good workout.
anwnate
Hurting pup. Index fingers are in rough shape. Red in IMPs. Hard to get that first hit in. Had to really disconnect from the pain. Then I mangled it. "Q" 0-1 DR @ 8 3/8" in IMPs/1.5 IMPs. I quickly realized I'm feeling beat up...and ended up using 1.5 IMPs for the 10-30 degrees. Wasn't my prettiest bend but it's done. Bending every day makes it hard to reconcile things like improvements, injuries, CNS etc. I know I can bend big steel if I rest up, heal up and slap a bunch of leather on the ends...but that's not really my goal. Still it eats at me. I'd like to be further along for 65 days or so. 2
JHenze646
What would be the harm in using leathers every twentieth workout or so? Couldn’t it be viewed as like an over-reaching session?
anwnate
I dont think there would be harm. It would kind of be like bench pressing with bending form. I mean...it definitely would be a workout.
anwnate
Bw squats. Red in IMPs. Red in 2/3 IMPs. Red in 1/2 IMPs. FBBC Shiny in 1.5/1 IMPs. Used the 1.5s from 10-80 degrees. Would have been nicer to kill the whole thing in singles..but all in good time. Bastard in IMPs. Wanted to feel powerful again after fighting that shiny. I know I've made good progress...but I'm still impatient. Acccck. Edit: this just arrived...woot! anwnate
Bw squats. Red in 2/3 IMPs. Red in 1/2 IMPs. Attempted an Edgin...moved maybe 5 degrees. My beat up hands were preventing a better showing (along with general weakness). Bastard in IMPs. Snooze. Just bending something today...the what wasn't critical.
anwnate
Bw squats. Glute bridges. Red in IMPs. "Q" 0-1 DR @ 8 3/8" in IMPs. Red (old stock) in IMPs. Gold Nail Rows. I think that's the second Q in strict singles. Gonna start working some R in soon. Gold progress is steady but slow. Old stock Red had to have been like 60lbs more than current. I wish I had labeled my stock way back when. Live and learn.

anwnate
Bw squats. Glute bridges. Bastard in IMPs. Old stock Red in IMPs. "R" 0-1 DR @ 8 3/8" in 1.5 IMPs. Initial hit was 15degrees. Pretty happy about that regardless of the 1.5s. Made it to 40deg...slowly...like 3-5 degrees a hit. Decided to call it. Very encouraging start to working on R level. Not jumping up and down...but encouraged nonetheless.

You'll need some 0-1 DR in 5/16" up to 21/64". Try starting with 8" edgins assuming that's a 7" edgin in the photo. You will also need 5/16" hex to progress as well. What's your max bend singles or doubles wraps?

I'm up to my ears in 0-1 right now. Strictly talking 8 3/8"...I've got DR up to 0.3750...which is probably a good 2 steps above IM Gold. At my best I managed to complete a 8 3/8" 0-1 "T" in double leathers. It was by far the hardest thing I ever bent. Coming back from medical crap (heart and head)...was much tougher though. As for singles, I can honestly say I dont remember (there are reasons for that). I can guess it wasn't much further than say a Shiny in IMPs. I do seem to enjoy minwrap bending. I've barehanded 60ds and I can see a barehand smoothed Red going down in the future. Kinda of a secondary or tertiary goal though. Gold comes first.
anwnate
Bw squats. Glute bridges. Old stock Red in IMPs. Old Spiral Red in 1/2 IMPs. "Q" 0-1 DR @ 8 3/8" in IMPs. My gut said to go long again so I did...and kept track of hit progress. 15 degrees, 30, 55, 75, 105, 115, interlock 3 quick hits, gripper crush 2 hits. By far, this was the easiest "Q" I put away. Sure it could be an outlier, but my technique could be more dialed in also. I look forward to a similar post about th 8 3/8" "R". anwnate
Didnt have a plan going in today. Just kinda winged it. Bw squats. Glute bridges. Old stock Red in IMPs. Red in 1/2 IMPs. "Q" 0-1 DR @ 8 3/8" in IMPs x 2. This Q was faster than ever...my heart being the only thing slowing me up. A sub 30 second bend turned into 4 minutes since I had to sit in between. It wasn't a lack of power...I just cant handle too many hits in a row at this level...yet. Ironically I took my time between hits on the second Q and it took about the same time. I feel like I've achieved/dialed in a new base level for 8 3/8" (meaning I can likely always bend a Q in IMPs...tired or not). Next comeback milestone will be the R...padding be damned.

Fun stuff - I’ve been doing a light banded version with an 8” polycarbonate rod as a shoulder mobility exercise, since my shoulders are like rusty gears held together with duct tape and chewing gum. 1
anwnate
So a tree went down on our fence yesterday...so I got in 3 hours of Yardio! Ha...finally used it. This morning I awoke beat the hell up. Maybe I should take a day off? Hahahaha. Bw squats. Glute bridges. Bastard in IMPs. Warm up. "Q" 0-1 DR @ 8 3/8" in IMPs. Oddly enough, for as beat up I feel...it went like cake. 2 or 3 less hits than my best. "R" 0-1 DR @ 8 3/8" in 1.5 IMPs. I managed 25 degrees before pulling something in my upper back. After that, I could not harness any power. Maybe the wifey will put an elbow into the knot. I didnt have to bend today, but if you dont allow yourself to fail...you also dont allow yourself to succeed.
anwnate
So the knots in my back are still prevelant, despite satan's ahem my wife's best efforts at painfully knocking them out. Bw squats. Glute bridges. Planks? No cause I'm slacking. Red in 2/3 IMPs. Red in 1/2 IMPs. "R" 0-1 DR in 1.5 IMPs. I gave up at 21 degrees. I think general fatigue and my knotted upper back prevented more movement. Not gonna beat myself up over it. It's a process dammit! Red in 1/3 IMPs. Barely any movement. Whatever energy I had went into that R fail. All and all, I "feel" there is a lot of hidden progress going on. When I'm thoroughly rested without tears...watch out. I'm 48yo today. It would be nice to cert gold by my 50th birthday. Might seem a little long range as goals go...but that will only make success sweeter.
