When to Cardiologist yesterday...did an echo and spotted something that looks like an ASD...but doesn't add up since I've had like 30 echos over the years and they should have seen this. That's really what the hubbub is about. I might have to have this procedure done.

done.

Today I'm sporting a Holter Monitor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holter_monitor to record my heart...I'm purposefully working out in it to get some feedback (not that I want to be told to slow down).

On a completely separate subject...recent realizations about my pinky has forced me to call an audible...more on that soon.

(Right Pinky still screwed up...I've decided it's never going to heal so I'm going to ignore it and pretend it's supposed to feel that way)

Was the axle double overhand or mixed grip because 285 DO would be a big improvement in a short time.

Dude...I pulled that at your place on the 23rd...I crapped out at 295 (got it off the ground though).

Just hitting it on my setup (assuming my bar is 10lbs).

Dying to workout...too much energy.

However... I know I'm getting stronger rebuilding/laying off...so I'm not going to sabotage that.

I'll just burn a few calories with a baby recovery workout (abs are always fair game).

Lol. Non standard equipment can suck at times. Doing off beat math mid PR attempts is dividing focus on the real task. Sometimes I just keep adding whatever weight to the bar until I max out, then I count what's on the bar.

Axle

234 x 2 (conv, sumo)

254 x 2 (conv, sumo) (Holy mother of murgatroyd! Upon locking out...my back went out! F. me!)

This is punishment for talking smack to Chez last night.

It took like 5 minutes for the spasms to stop.

As I mentioned in my first post...I have a chronic back issue...up until this point, deadlifts hadn't bothered it at all so I thought I was in the clear with this exercise.

I am hoping that this is an aberration...that I wasn't warmed up properly and it won't happen again. HOPING!

I'm not giving up. I'm not conceding the bet...but my confidence is shattered. I need to rebuild it.

254 x 2 (conv) (very careful reps...body screaming to back away from the weight)

Don't want to stop, don't want to give in, so I change tactics.

200 x 2 (conv lift ....hold for 30 seconds a piece).

6 Dumbbell Front Raise (25x2)

Stick a fork in me...done for the year! Happy New Year grip peeps! It's gonna be frelling awesome! :rock:rock:rock

Please buy a weight lifting belt. It is much safer for your back when doing heavy deadlifts.

We'll just have to keep the hard work up Nathaniel! Sorry for your back. Have you considered using a belt? I got one recently, didn't use it that much because of getting sick and stuff, but the times I used it, it made a BIG difference. Maybe good for feeling more confident.

Edit: Completely missed Chez his post haha sorry.

Heh...I didn't think I was doing heavy deadlifts.

Thanks for the concern guys. I should really be a little more cautious. At 40, I don't heal so quick anymore.

The wife provided me with some of those under belt wraps yesterday...I've got a lifting belt(non leather etc) from an old job I can use until I get the real deal.

A few minutes ago she whipped out a portable TENS unit and hooked me up! I'm in heaven! How the heck a little 9 volt battery can provide this kind of stimulation is beyond me.

At this point I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything that hasn't already been done to my back before. In the past, I've had times where I literally had to fall out of the car and crawl into the Chiropractors office.

This isn't anywhere near that level...more of a tweak.

Perhaps it's best I did this now before I start throwing REAL weight around.

:)

My two cents:

look into biofeedback training as taught by Adam Glass, for correcting imbalances and injuries nothing compares.

Get a competition KB, probably 20 or 24kg and learn to do a competition style swing. Do a lot. (If this movement tests well, by I suspect it will)

Thanks I'll look into it. A KB is on my wish list (which never seems to be complete hmmmm).

It might not hurt to post a video of your pulls as well. There might be something with your form that others may see.

+1 what Jason said. Often on the axle people will lose complete form due to the grip. I've seen Vince Urbanks knees shake like all hell while doing a near stiff leg lift trying to max ~440 on the axle in a grip event. He's a 900+ puller. During an axle pull one really needs to ensure ll technique is perfect to allow all the concentration of energy to go straight to the hands.

Here is some additional advice, and all stuff I do every time I pull. I do 3x6 or 2x10 warmups with just 45 on each side. It doesn't matter how much you can pull, you gotta get the blood moving first before you feel the weight. For you I'd slap on a belt when the second pair of 45s goes on the bar. Get a 10mm Inzer latch or single prong. A belt really helps when you take in a lot of air and push it down into your belly. You should feel it push out against the belt and the lower back will feel solid as a rock. And finally, if you feel the back in a negative way while lifting, just stop and scrap the workout. Missing one complete workout will not have any affect on your progress, but a tweaked back will! There is only regression to be gained from pushing through a back that doesn't feel right.

Absolutely. I'm positive my form is lacking. I will do this in the future. Thanks.

Heh. Chez is always on my case up insufficient warmups. Sucks to have to be slightly injured to listen.

I'll try the air thing next lifts.

In general, I'm all for scrapping a workout when feeling off...unfortunately, I think I've been pushing to get as much in before Feb. as possible. Of course getting injured really works against this goal.

Thanks guys.

Chiropractor

Painted Medley Platform I built yesterday. I know it's gonna be beat to hell by the end, but I couldn't resist.

Legs can be removed/replaced for different heights.

I made it in two pieces for ease of transport and the ability to change configuration due to environment of event. 2'x8' or 4'x4' (height 18" currently)
