Cannon Posted August 27, 2012 Share Posted August 27, 2012 I've found an interesting side effect to cleaning and rating so many grippers. My left-hand sweep strength is through the roof! Basically each time I clean a gripper for rating, I set it slightly in my left hand and then mash it as far as I can. I can get good travel out of pretty much any gripper up to the Grand Elite. Then I hold it there while I casually clean the spring with oil and a toothbrush. Multiply this by X number of grippers, 3+ nights per week, it amounts to a lot of "training". So last night I was rating a #3, which I had obviously just removed from the package, and without thinking I just mashed it down with my left so I could clean the spring. It was probably 1/4" from shut with barely any set. I realized if I start forcing these in and doing some work on my left to bring up the crush to match the sweep, I might have the makings of a #3 cert attempt! I had written off the #3 cert as something I was not interesting in training for, but here I am training by accident! Another piece of evidence is that at the Master of the Horror Grip I pulled a PR on Rolling Thunder, which I never train. That pull was lefty which used to be my weaker hand.
