Moeller Vs. Weights

I could do better fresh with lefty.

That's a lot of reps you're pumping out. Nicely done.

Thanks Mike, I'll be going 15-20lbs heavier each week and try to maintain a comparable rep count. I just had to get used to grabbing the thing and pressing without overthinking it

Thanks Mike! I guess some sort of propane tank and welded tire contraption could be used, and the dumbbell is just something I saw at a few other comps for odd object loading. Others included a fire hydrant, field stones, cylinder stones, logs. I guess I don't know how the heck to train for this!

And I'm pretty happy with the yoke, my best time with 640 was over 13 seconds so this is a big PR! :sorcerer:

Haley is VERY concerned about you dropping something on your foot. Please be careful she says.

You make these medleys look a lot of fun. Except the sandbag crop dusting your face.

Are you bearcrawling the harness prowler or standing up?

Haha yeah I bit the dust literally! I start in a bear crawl and eventually get higher as I build speed, and if I come across another truck pull event in my future I need to remember to keep really really low because I get screwed when I rise up too early. Speaking of medleys I have a vid of that odd object medley you liked, I made it a tad heavier than last time though!

I'm pretty sure he was tongue punching the sandbag.

I work with progressively fuller sandbags to simulate progressively less cooperative sphincters... :whistel

That was a pretty serious time increase on your second Medley! And by increase, I of coarse mean the ~28 seconds you shaved off the final time! Congrats! :rolleyes

Thanks man! If I had monster hands I would probably focus more on grip, but with strongman training I really just focus on farmers walks/holds and some thickbar

You don't need huge hands to focus on grip, lots of guys are really strong with sub 8" hands. Did I read in your log that you double over hand axle DL-ed somewhere in the 350's? If so that's really strong.

Naturally. Nice work all around with the strongman training.

Matt- Your conditioning is good. If the press is the weak point then don't clean every rep, just the first. The time under tension and controlling the negative will help progress your pressing much better.

That sounds like me, I have done 350 DO on the axle but haven't focused on it much. A while ago I asked the forum on what they thought a good way to do some extra grip training without taking away from the days I do farmers walks but didn't get a clear response. I'd take any suggestions you or Durrs have on the matter!

Thanks Mike you know your stuff so I will do some negatives and hopefully that will beef up my press. How else do you avoid shoulder wear and tear without dropping the DB?

Yeah you're going to get a lot of grip training just by doing farmers walk, stones and other strongman events. But one thing you could add in addition to any thick bar stuff you're doing, (not sure if you do it now or not) is pinch work, this will get your thumbs real strong and when your thumb is strong it helps everything else.

If you have metal plates (25's, 35's 45's), you can turn them face in so the smooth sides are out, then pinch them one handed or two handed or reps or holding for time. sorinex.com sells a "saxon bar" which is a 3''x4'' bar you can use for pinch lifting or you could try making a two hand pinch device which is basically like two plates with the smooth sides out with a metal pipe through the middle where extra weight can be added on to the pipe to make it heavier.
