Bill Piche
Hmmm..."Can he clean and press with one hand?" Sure, with a dish rag and a hot iron. BAAAHAAHAH! Hey, you never said lifting the Inch...just cleaning and pressing!!! Ahhh, good ole People's Champ. If ego is a factor, Tim will snatch the thing! Guest Luke Reimer
A clean and press? The Inch Dumbbell looks pretty safe to me, judging from the effort on Tim's face during his waist-high lifts. Maybe he could do it if he got really, really good at the deep-squat cleaning technique, and if he stood over a deep hole so he wouldn’t bottom out (ha!). Maybe I’m wrong, but I think a dead-lift is a long way from a clean. Heath, are you training to put the Inch overhead one handed? What about a clean and jerk instead of a clean and press? Bearcat 74
I don't think ol'Tim has a snow balls chance in the hot place of cleaning and pressing the Inch. I'm not even close to Dl'ing the Inch, let alone putting it overhead. My best so far is 156 on the IDB, one day though.........
Roark
To clean any weight, let alone the Inch bell, the arm has to be a little less straight than Tim's is in these photos, and while his post (hopefully) is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, his accomplishment in deadlifting the bell is to be congratulated. Let's see...the most weight ever cleaned using two hands is less than 600 lbs, and the most weight ever deadlifted is more than 900 lbs, so generalizing with the 2:3 ratio, when Tim can show us photos of this deadlift with a bell of 258 lbs, then we can talk. Guest pgaster
I don't want to call Mr. Brunner a liar, but didn't Kaz lift the Inch dumbbell from the ground to over his head with one hand only? I never read that Kaz used both hands for the initial lift. The whole challenge of the Inch dumbbell was to lift it with one hand and I doubt that Kaz would ever cheat like that. Do you guys have any more info on how Kaz lifted the Inch Dumbbell over his head?
Roark
At this year's Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio, the pro wrestler Mark Henry was there and went to the booth where 贄 was being offered for a one hand deadlift of an Inch replica. Four men succeeded, and Mark was one of them. At first he bent over to get a feel of the bell, then put it down. One of the booth workers said, 'No, you did not straighten your legs, not a good lift." Mark, who had not really tried, bent over again, and pulled the replica up to about his chest area. I talked to Mark about it, and that's what happened. But, rumors began, and before long, the story evolved into Mark cleaning the bell with one hand, putting it overhead with one hand, and then walking around the Expo with it over his head. Kaz lifted the Inch replica using one hand and one knee. As he explained to a friend of mine, he stood the bell on end, deadlifted it to where he could set one end on his knee, and used leg thrust and one arm to finish the clean (so actually he did not clean it, he performed a continental since it touched his body). Just think how much stronger than Kaz, Thomas Inch must have been! [another joke]
SShafley
Well, Bruner might be somewhat of a braggart, but apparently he's got a good grip. He usually does what he says he will, or at least gives it a good try. I don't really know the inch story, did Inch clean and press this heavy dumbbell or just deadlift it or just press it or what? The Mac
As Wannagrip intimates, Tim Bruner is well known on the powerlifting boards for being an outrageous, trash-talking kind of guy. It is all tongue-in-cheek, and very entertaining at times. But he is as strong as the proverbial Ox, as proved by his deadlifting the Inch replica, and his other exploits (have a look at the rest of the site). So Mr. Bruner might be bragging or it may be an actual goal, and if so I'm sure he will give it a good go before realizing he will probably be unable to do it. Either way I wouldn't take the tone of his claim too seriously. I'm sure he isn't!!
Sybersnott
Aside from the inaccuracies - there is ONE guy who can clean and press the Inch Dumbbell unassisted with one hand. It's the guy the dumbbell was named for..... Thomas Inch.
Roark
Sy, If Inch ever pressed the Inch dumbell, he bent pressed it, not pressed it. And, of course, I do not believe for a nanosecond that he could clean the 172 with one hand.
