Chez vs The MM8: Whatever it takes

My hands actually feel pretty good this morning. I think doing it on light gripper days is good idea. I actually did my explosive TSG training this morning with some pinch:

Grippers

Right Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 parallel reps

Working

BBM 5/8 = 3 reps explosive CCS for 5 sets

Left Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 parallel reps

Working

COC #1 = 3 reps explosive CCS for 5 sets

Pinch reps with the Vulcan Thumbscrews

2 Red IM bands on top notches = 10 reps for 5 sets both right and left hand.

Note - Couple of weeks back I received 2 50 lbs hex weights from a member on the board. I can't get them just yet so I just ordered a 42.5 hex from another member in order to bridge the gap. I'm happy with my progress on grippers and thick bar but I need to step up my pinch. My goal is to lift the 50 lb hex as soon as possible. Blobs and Hexs are always in the medley of competitions so its important that I get better at them,

Mixed it up today. Did some low rep CCS work and some high rep parallel work with the TSGs.

Right Hand

Warm up:

COC #1 = 10 CCS reps

COC #2 = 3 CCS reps

COC #2.5 = 1 CCS rep

Working:

CCS rep sets:

1) BBGM = CCS rep attempt. This was really close. I'm sure if I got it or not. I tried getting it on video but screwed up the video again.

2) RB 240 = 2 CCS reps and just missing the 3rd. I got this on video using my web cam, see below.

3) RB 240 = 2 CCS reps

4) COC 2.5 = 1 CCS rep. Dam Skin on my pinky is tearing up. The RB has sharp knurling.

5) COC 2.5 = 1 CCS rep

High Rep Parallel sets

1) COC 2 = 20 reps

2) COC 2 = 20 reps

3) COC 2 = 20 reps

4) COC 2 = 20 reps

5) COC 2 = 20 reps

Left Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 CCS reps

COC #2 = 3 CCS reps

Working

CCS rep sets:

1) COC 2.5 = 1 CCS rep

2) COC 2.5 = 1 CCS rep

3) COC 2.5 = 1 CCS rep

4) COC 2.5 = Just missed a CCS rep

5) COC 2 = 5 CCS reps

Higher rep parallel reps:

1) BBM 5/8 = 15 reps

2) BBM 5/8 = 14 reps

3) BBM 5/8 = 10 reps

4) COC 1 = 30 reps

5) COC = 25 reps

Note = Good pump in the forearms from the higher rep work. Here is the video of the RB 240 CCS reps =

, sorry for the crap quality.

Hey Chez, you are so close on a ccs for 3! I was just watching the 2 new videos from Mighty Joe about explosive power on smaller grippers to make huge gains on goal grippers. Maybe it's a good switch-up from your routine and the added boost to push you onto the 3.5... Check it out

Oh also, how does your RB240 rate compared to your coc 2.5?I think it should only be a few pounds more resistance, but does it feel closer to 2.5 or 3?

Hey Sean, That last little bit on the #3 has got me stuck but I'm going to focus on grippers because I really need to get this out of the way. Kind of obsessed at this point . I do some explosive TSG in between my heavy days. I got the Idea from Tim Struse who is the top guy on the MM pyramid. Same concept that Mighty Joe does in his videos. In fact, next workout is going to be those explosive reps. I'm going to get this no matter how hard I have to push myself. The RB 240 is closer to my COC #2.5 and my BBGM is closer to my #3. Those are my 2 main in between grippers.

Good luck man! I am hoping you close it soon. I have been doing some of your workouts with slightly lower grippers and I am getting close to a close on #3 now from a deep set. I was about 6 mm away yesterday. So thanks for the training logs. They have been great to learn from and see your progress. BTW, my rb210 is barely less than my coc 2.5 and I need to get an rb240 to fill that gap to the 3.

Just Some explosive gripper training with a very light gripper:

COC #1 for 3 explosive CCS reps for 5 sets on both the right and left hand.

Note - got 3 exams this week so I'm going to rest up while studying and hit max grippers again later in the week.

Explosive TSG training tonight:

Right Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 MMS reps

Working

COC #2 = 3 CCS reps for 5 sets as explosive as possible

Left Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 MMS reps

Working

BBM 5/8 = 3 CCS reps for 5 sets as explosive as possible.

Note - Even though I was using very light grippers my hands felt strong tonight. I can actually see the knurling ground down on my #1 from explosive training. I guess resting my hands every now and then is a good thing. Need to take more breaks in the future.

Thanks Matt. Those held closes with the MM1 and #3 before hurt like hell but in a good way. I'm thinking of the same format for my next heavy day but with as many sets as it take to get 20 reps on the #3. Sounds like fun. Today I just hit some explosive TSG and wrist work.

Busted out my new loadable blob in today's training session. Also did some explosive TSG.

Loadable Blob

Warm Up

To warm up I tossed the blob without any weight or the loading pin in the air and caught it with one hand a couple times. I also face lifted it a couple times to really stretch out the fingers. I did this with both hands. The blob without weight or the loading pin weighs a little over 5 lbs.

Working

Weights include the weight of the device. The blob and loading pin weigh 6.5 lbs alone.

Rep sets:

1) 16.5 lbs = 5 paused reps. Right and then left hand

2) 19 lbs = 3 paused reps. Right and then left hand

3) 21.5 lbs = 3 paused reps. Right and then left hand

Singles:

4) 24 lbs = Good lift. Right and then left hand

5) 26.5 lbs = Good lift. Right and then left hand

6) 29 lbs = Good lift. Right and then left hand

7) 30.25 lbs = Good lift. Right and then left hand

8) 31.5 lbs = Good lift. Right and then left hand

9) 32.75 lbs = Good lift. Right and then left hand

10) 34 lbs = Air with the right but no lock out. Good lift with the left hand.

Grippers

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 parallel reps. right and then left hand

Working

COC #1 = 3 explosive CCS reps for 5 sets. Right and then left hand.

Note - Going for 40+ pounds on the loadable blob next time. Now that I know where I stand I'm going to make larger jumps so I don't waste energy on the earlier sets. Its an awesome timing tool. You can change the weight very quickly.

It has a little roughness from when they shaped of the metal so it takes chalk but its still pretty smooth. Its a nice challenge. I'm going to have a lot of fun trying to hit 50lbs plus on this thing.

Max TSG day. I have been feeling a little lately but I pushed through the workout and it went pretty well.

Note - All reps parallel or slightly wider

Right Hand

Warm up

COC #2 = 3 explosive reps

COC #2.5 = 1 explosive rep

Working

COC #3 - going for 20 reps in as many sets as it takes

1) 4 reps - personal best with this gripper so far

2) 4 reps

3) 3 reps, just missed 4th

4) 3 reps

5) 2 reps, just missed 3rd

6) 2 reps, just missed 3rd

7) 1 rep, just missed 2nd

8) missed rep, couldn't close the last little bit

9) missed rep, couldn't close the last little bit. dam, thats only 19 reps total. All those near misses killed. I'll get 20 reps next time.

10) COC #2.5 = 8 reps

Left Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 explosive reps

COC #2 = 3 explosive reps

Working

COC #2.5 - 20 reps in as many sets as it takes

1) 4 reps, just missed 5th

2) 4 reps

3) 3 reps

4) 3 reps

5) 3 reps

6) 3 reps - thats 20 going to have to use the RB240 next time because that was too easy.

7) RB240 = 1 rep

8) RB 240 = 1 rep

9) RB 240 = 1 rep

10) COC #2 = 10 reps

Note - felt good to man handle the #3 but I'm pissed I couldn't get that 20th rep. It will fuel me for next time. Just got a MM3 replica and fat gripz from my girl. I also have a RB330N on the way.
