Chez vs The MM8: Whatever it takes

Recommended Posts

great session today:

Sled pulls and drags

we did it 4 different way (hold a bar behind our back, attached to our weight belt, pushing and holding a bar in front going backwards) 2 times down and back each way for a total of 8 times down and back. Didn't do a great job of keeping track of the weight but more weight this time. Top sets were over 400 lbs counting the sled

Standing Overhead Barbell Press

4 warm ups

190 lbs - 5x, 6x, 6x, 5x

230 lbs - single

170 lbs - 15x AMRAP. Happy with that

Barbell JM press

135 lbs - 8x

155 lbs - 8x

175 lbs - 8x

195 lbs - 7x

EZ Curl Bar Preacher Curls

70 lbs - 8x

90 lbs - 8x

100 lbs - 8x

110 lbs - 8x

120 lbs - 6x

70 lbs - 20x

Measured my Biceps at the end to see where I was with a pump and got spot on 20". Now I just need to keep growing to make this my cold measurement

Only had time for deadlifts today cause I have a tight work deadline to meet

Deadlifts

5 warm ups

365 lbs - 6x, 6x, 6x, 6x

440 lbs - explosive single. That moved crazy fast and easy. Moved like 315. Even my friend said he’s never seen me lift that fast and explosive. Felt dam good. I made sure to get amped up and it worked big time.

320 lbs - 12x. Left a couple in the tank

good session

Thanks buddy. I have been experimenting with how to peak with this programming and my body’s response. I have failed before but I think I have learned a lot and should be better prepared next week. Will take video

Gotta start logging again so I’ll start with last night’s session. I was super sick Sunday and Monday basically spending most of those two days in bed eating very little and feeling super weak so I’m happy I was able to force myself to the gym last night and some solid work in:

Standing Overhead Barbell Press

240 lbs - solid single. This actually shocked me cause I’m Sunday I was so sick that just walking around was hard. Nice turn around. Video below

190 lbs - 4x, 5x, 5x, 5x

decided to skip the AMRAP set cause I didn’t want to tax myself to much after getting over the illness

Slick 2.5” Crusher

137.5 lbs - double each hand

140 lbs - double each hand

142.5 lbs - double each hand

145 lbs - double each hand

137.5 lbs - lift and 10 sec hold each hand

138.75 lbs - lift and 10 sec hold each hand

140 lbs - lift and 10 sec hold each hand

decided to call it quits there. Quick session just to get back in the flow

Tonight’s training:

Deadlifts

355 lbs - 4x, 5x, 5x, 5x

again skipped my AMRAP set cause I don’t want to over do it coming back from being sick

Lat Pull Downs

1 warm up set

180 lbs - 8x

190 lbs - 8x

200 lbs - 8x

210 lbs - 8x

One Arm Machine Rows

62.5 lbs - 8x each arm

75 lbs - 8x each arm

87.5 lbs - 8x each arm
100 lbs - 8x each arm

enough for tonight

So now that I am back to closing my 194.5 lb super elite, I laid out my gripper progression and tools I’ll need to get the MM8/9. I took a picture but I plan to make a video on it cause two of those tettings are adjustable (ones on the plastic) and the spring marked for specific ratings which is super cool. Basically I have one lb jumps all the way to 210.

Chez, thank for the shout out on the Tetting adjustables. I started converting those in 2009 as well other gripper modifications like the bottom mount chokers and extensions later for various training methods. There's probably in the low 200 count range of them out there that I converted to adjustable mount alone. As well as considerably more than that converted to bottom mount choker of all brands and types. I still can do the conversion if one needed it done I just don't advertise or often get asked to do it anymore now that there are so many gripper options out there. One of these days I need to show some of the specialty methods I came up with that work with some of the customizations.

Anyway, good luck with your training and I know you will get it.

Great video! Lots of good info.

You have some unbelievable gripper strength.

Good luck on the mm8 I know you’ll get there. How did you injure yourself? And are as strong now as pre injury?

Thanks buddy. I inured myself on the tips tester in competition. I didn’t learn proper technique and it’s a super dangerous event so even light weight tore my pulley. And yes before the pandemic I got back up to even past were I was before the injury but then the gyms closed and I tweaked my Pec and then my wrist so I finally about 95% back after overcoming those injures
