Well my name is Jon Darty and I've been reading this forum for just a couple weeks now.. And I love it by the way. My stats are 26 yrs old, 225 lbs, 6ft tall..

I train exclusively for powerlifting but have recently began falling in love with grip training.. I have a pretty good foundation of grip and wrist strength from powerlifting.. My best bench has been 555x9 reps in a shirt and regularly go 700 plus on touch sets (like a negative). My deadlift is 650ish and have done 905 rack pulls. So my grip has been hit pretty hard basically.

I have the COC #1, #2, and #3... The #1 & #2 are like cake and I'm about 1/8" or less on the #3. I purchased these grippers about 4 years ago but never really used them. I have also been nail bending for the past couple of weeks.. I started out with 7" x 3/16" cold rolled steel. I am now up to 6.5" x 1/4 CRS. I actully just found out that I should have started with the easier hot rolled steel, but oh well...

Here is a short list of goals I want for now:

*Destroy the #3 and possibly certify

*Crush the red nail and possibly certify

A pretty short list for the time being. I am grip training 3 days a week right now. Rotating between gripper/bending days and pinching/wrist days...

My current arsenal includes: #3 Attempts and Negatives, Choked # 3 closes, #2 Strap Holds, Wrist roller, Pinch block, hub lifts, Bending, Plate pinching, Plate Curls, Plate wrist curls... And I may add in others later.

I am considering giving the KTA program a try, and was wondering if it could possibly interfere with my powerlifitng training in any way?

Well there's my summary, sorry if I rambled on too much.. And thanks everyone for such a great board....

Hi My name is Jack. I guess you could figure that out from my username. I'm new to this board and I'm looking to improve my grip strength for deadlifting. It's always been a problem. Broke my hands fighting and I guess they've been weak ever since. Any exercises or suggestions?

Ola,

My name is Brian, I'm 28 and a regular, if you will, at the GG and P&B, among some others. I started out as more of a struggling BB, came to the GG to learn from more experienced people, did that, got more into PL thru my adventures around the internet and, actually thru some well known members at both of the sites mentioned above, started to become more and more interested in Grip training after reading some of their posts, competitions and training. Right now I'm working on the CoC trainer, so I'm far behind and using no particular methodology right now, other than closing it for reps.

I know not much about Brookfiled, just of him. Another place I learned a lot about this stuff was from the Ironmind catalogs just by looking at the pics and descriptions of the equipment and of the people using them. I still am dedicated to my lifting program and will be but adding grip to my overall package will only benefit me.

Thanks.

Hi everyone, my name is Andy Watson. I have posted twice on the gripboard and upon reviewing all the topics I realized I should have posted to this one first since I am a "newbie". My future brother-in-law, Steve "Milkbone" Reagan introduced me to this forum last Summer but it wasn't until recently that I decided to get involved in this special forum for grip specialists.

I am 37 years old, 5'11, 270 lbs. and live in Las Vegas. I am actively involved in competition powerlifting with the USAPL federation and am a lifetime drug free lifter. I got involved in grip training about three years ago and have incorporated several aspects of grip training into my routine. To be honest, I have always put grip training secondary behind power training doing grip training after I was done with my other training. I introduced Steve to the grippers a while back and he took off with them and has recently become a certified Captain of Crush to which he has my highest admiration!

I have about 4 months before the next meet so I thought it was time to quit screwing around and get the #3 closed. Steve has encouraged me to go for it and so it only follows that I should go to the place where the experts are: The Gripboard. I have already learned a lot here and I know I will know more the longer I am here. I want to get certified on the #3 and continue to make improvements with other aspects of grip training in the future. Thanks for letting me be a part of this forum!

I think Wanna can back me up on this, since I am beginning to see a trend here.

On your very first post to this forum, PLEASE introduce yourself and tell us about what your doing in terms of grip training, what your interests are in terms of grip strength, and what you want to get out of this forum.  You can also include other information that might be revelant, such as height, weight, age, etc.

Here's an example:  On his very first post, I saw a newbie boast about the accomplishments of another member (which we are well aware of), and in the process break a rule of the forum.  This led to Wanna locking the topic.  I would have like to have known something more about the newbie as well.

OTOH, I read another first post from another newbie and he went into detail about who he was, what his training background was, and what he wanted to do in terms of grip - THEN he asked a question about his routine.  IMHO, this is the way it should be.

Newbies that lurk before posting are good too.  It means that they are gathering a consensus of the forum, and are cautious to ask a question here that has been asked about a million times!  :D

O.K., I'll get off my soapbox now...  :rolleyes

Hello everyone,

I am 40, 6'0'' and under 200.

For grip work I use the Ivanko supergripper, pinches

and finger extensions. I also do some bending of 60d

nails and 1/4 inch steel.

This next year I am planning on getting in my best

shape ever. After having had both double hernia

surgery and shoulder joint problems things are looking

up now. I have made decent progress the past

few months.

Just ordered a coc #3.

With the gripboard I plan on both being inspired and

inspiring others.

Many thanks to Bill and the whole gripboard gang.

You guys have done an awesome job. :bow

Hi everyone,

I am newbie (42 years "old")from Germany in the area of Heidelberg. I am working out with weights for many years now and since school ( when one of my teachers mentioned that a strong grip is always a helpfull tool) I was looking after griptraining.

All I did was working on this cheap plastic handle grippers and did wrist curls.

This year in spring I was introduced to the COC's. Well I bought me # 1/2 and 3 and I was not even able to close the #1. So I got the trainer and meanwhile I can close the #1 approx 15-20 reps and work hard to closed the #2.

My target is to close the COC # 3 and get certified.

I got a few homemade tools and bought some equipment. I am looking after an overall handstrength.

I am doing good but have not found the optimal trainig routine yet.

Therefore I joined the board and I am surprised!

At this stage I'll sneak around an gahter as much informations as I can.

I found out that griptraining is not very popular in Germany and if you do some gripwork in the gym most of the guys observe this and act like you are sick. I am looking forward to close the COC#3 and have them trying it.

Hi all,

I've been lurking for a bit, and really appreciate the wealth of knowlege and inspiration I've gathered here already.

I've been training grip for about 3 years. I was introduced to the CoC grippers by a co-worker and immediately decided that I needed my own set. I was a hair off the #1 when I started. I'm now repping the #2 and about a quarter inch from the #3.

I've dabbled with pinching on a block made of a 2x12, and I'm interested in starting bending and card tearing. I also got a rolling thunder for Christmas, so I'm hoping to improve there. 125lbs is my current best on both hands.

I'm also interested in overall strength training and have been lifting for about 2 years.

Looking forward to learning more and getting stronger. Some of you folks are quite an inspiration.

-Gary

Hello all,

I'm 38, 6'0, 200#'s and have been weight training since high school. Saw the MSN clip of John Brookefield on the Today Show yesterday and was amazed at his hand strength. After a little searching I ended up here - I had no idea there were this many guys interested in grip. A few hours of reading posts has got me pretty fired up about this stuff already, ordered the CofC #1 yesterday and get wait to get it!

Thanks,

Greg

Hello,

My name is Chris and I'm 41 years old. I've been involved in physical fitness since I was about 15. I'm joining this forum, because I'm really interested in developing a very strong overall grip. I've already started nail bending and I've been following the advice of John Brookfiled's books "Mastery of Hand Strength" and "The Grip Master's Manual" to develop my grip strength. I'm really enjoying grip training and I'm looking forward to be a part of this forum.

Thanks,

Chris
