Could you tell us a little about your background in lifting?

(age, when started lifting, why you started, what you do now as far as lifts)

I have been lifting on and off ( mostly off ) since 15 yrs old.

How did you get into grip training?

Paul Knight showed me his grippers in 2003 or so, before he could even close a three. I was amazed at the difficulty. A few years later my brother bought a set and I was hooked.

You are now a GripBoard Mash Monster, what would you recommend to those aspiring to close this gripper?

Train hard and be patient.

You are also a Certified Captain of Crush® How long did it take you from when you first started working on the grippers to closing the #3?

I am not certified on the three, It took me about 6 months to go from the 2 to the 3.

What does your current grip routine look like?

Grippers every day, about 15 attempts at 80 % then about 3 or 4 at 100 %.

How has your grip routine changed since you first started training your grip?

I have added some weight lifting to the mix, when I gained about 40lbs the grippers got easier.

There seems to be a significant variation in the frequency of grip workouts among trainees even with the common goal of ultimate grip strength. Have you experimented with workout frequency and it's affect on your training?

I respond well to overtraining.

What are your favorite grip exercises?

Grippers and hub lifts

What kind of starting routine would you recommend for a trainee new to grip training?

Regular weight routine and grip at the end of the workouts, you could split the grip portion of the workout to suit your tastes.

Who do you most admire in gripdom?

I admire everybody the same.

If you were to start over again with your grip training, what would you do differently?

Start younger.

What do you believe is the most difficult grip exercise?

For me thick bar is a struggle.

What are some of your personal bests in grip exercises?

Proud of the MM1 cert.

What do you believe is the most common mistake made by new grip trainees?

Stopping because of no apparent progress, you must train thru a sticking point and you will come out stronger in the end.

What do you consider to be the greatest grip feats of all time?

Inch lifts, COC 4 closes, and heavy 2hps.

Do you have any parting advice for readers?

Enjoy your training, find a group of goofy buddies to train with, make up a name for youselves and add the word " crew" to the end.
