Could you tell us a little about your background in lifting?

(age, when started lifting, why you started, what you do now as far as lifts)

Well, I have lifted on and off throughout my life. Back in it pretty hard since May 2009.

How did you get into grip training?

I stumbled upon it. Paul Knight started to work in my office. He introduced me to Grippers / Metal Bending / Pinch.

You are now a GripBoard Mash Monster, what would you recommend to those aspiring to close this gripper?

I have no idea…all this is still very new to me and am learning a lot. I pretty much do what Paul Knight tells me to do.

You are also a Certified Captain of Crush® How long did it take you from when you first started working on the grippers to closing the #3?

I was able to close the # 3 the first time I touched it.

What does your current grip routine look like?

Grippers! That's about it!

How has your grip routine changed since you first started training your grip?

I am working harder on setting and finalizing the crush consistently. I am trying to work with more difficult grippers to prepare me for the Mash Monster Ladder.

There seems to be a significant variation in the frequency of grip workouts among trainees even with the common goal of ultimate grip strength. Have you experimented with workout frequency and it's affect on your training?

Twice a week fits my schedule and my personality…Tuesdays and Saturdays with rest and ICE!

What are your favorite grip exercises?

Any grippers!

What kind of starting routine would you recommend for a trainee new to grip training?

Start with the trainer and work on the set! Start moving up and write down your goals with a date. Keep the levels in perspective from each gripper.

Who do you most admire in gripdom?

No way…not answering that one.

If you were to start over again with your grip training, what would you do differently?

Work on my set with less difficult grippers.

What do you believe is the most difficult grip exercise?

Closing the #4. It's a legend for a reason…

What are some of your personal bests in grip exercises?

Right now, closing 3.5.

What do you believe is the most common mistake made by new grip trainees?

Not keeping the difficulties in perspective among the different grippers and thinking they can climb or move up faster than what's really possible resulting in frustration and burnout. Which I am guilty of!

What do you consider to be the greatest grip feats of all time?

When people make the Thomas inch look easy and reaching the MM6.

Do you have any parting advice for readers?

Grind the handles and use the shavings for spices.
